Wayfinder, TotalPDA and Widget have
joined forces to promote wayfinder in the UK.
Wayfinder have joined up with their two UK distributers (TotalPDA, and Widget) and are doing a roadshow presentation of the Wayfinder mobile phone navigation system to UK retailers.
This is an awareness initiative to let the retailers know about the product, how it works, and providing the reassurance that there is a full support service in the UK for Wayfinder.
Wayfinder supplied a good team from Dr Bernhard Steiner, Executive Director, and Susan Akici from Global Marketing, through to the full UK team. Also present were David Elder and Mark Antliff representing the distributers. There was also the technical product manager from Nokia there as well. The picture above shows the Wayfinder team and Mark Antliff (TotalPDA) who joined together for the product presentation.
Some interesting items came out of the meeting including the introduction of Traffic Information. This has already been implemented in Germany and Sweden, and is confirmed for the UK. There was no firm date for UK implementation, but Q2 was mentioned.
Wayfinder is also on course for implementation in the USA, again Q2 was mentioned.
Something us Brits would like and will be critical for the sucess of the product in the US is distance units being in imperial as well as metric.
Also mentioned, but I suspect somewhat further off, was the possibility of offroad useage of Wayfinder. There is no reason why the map server cannot provide Nautical Charts and Topo maps as well as Street Maps. This will then present the user with a full navigation solution using just one package. Also possible would be a shift in platform, currently the software is only available on Symbian OS phones, the client could be implemented on Pocket PCs and Palm PDAs. _________________ Mike Barrett |
