Tom Tom website seems to imply that the iPAQ HX4700 is not one of the compatible devices for TTN6. Is this right? _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

It's smooth as silk on my HX4700 running WM5, much better than TT5.21 and really shows the VGA display off. |

Thanks for the vote of confidence - sounds like it's time for an upgrade. _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

I am given to unterstand by TT that is is the operating system on the hx4700. Many are on Pocket Windows 2003.
Certainly mine will not work with the TomTom Home latest edition. |

Can you be more specific and define which bit doesn't work on your 4700 ? - Mike |

I think he means the firmware revision, not the Pocket PC software version. Mine runs firmware 2.01 and is fine, I think theolder version is 1.03.

In order to download TT6 with the new maps it is neccessary to nominate a compatible IPAQ. Can someone advise which one they nominated to get a setup that works on the 4700?
Many thanks

Ok. Thanks to everyone for the previous advice and encouragement. Upgrade seemed to go well. I began by installing TomTom Home and took it from there. I am not sure whether all components have installed where they should have done. At one point the system reported that there was insufficient space to load the application software. I think this has ended up in internal memory whilst my Western Europe maps are on my CF card. But I do seem to have a lot of empty TomTom folders spread around my device.
However, it is working so I ain't going to try and "fix" it. TTN6 looks great and has many nice features, some of which seem to have been re-introduced after disappearing from previous versions.
In response to Alistair - I don't think I specified a model and simply chose the "other device" option.
However, whilst TTN6 and my new maps are working well I can't seem to get traffic updates. When I go into TomTom traffic I get a message saying that "..the content is protected for exclusive use on another device". I've posted a support question via the TomTom support pages but not yet received a response. _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

My thanks to “Chrisnel”, I’m waiting for a 1GB SD card and will try to install TT6 plus new maps. I intend to copy my present TT5 & old maps over to the new card before attempting the process. I’ll let you all know how I get on. |

Alistair, I'm not sure how it all works and what exactly it does, but the TomTom Home software that you need to install on your home PC includes a facility to backup your TomTom installation. I did this prior to installing TTN6 in the hope that if it all went pear-shaped I could at least get back to a working version. Of course you never know whether these backups work until you try to "recover" one.
One thing I did have to do though, after backing up, was to delete all my old maps from my CF card to make room for the new Western Europe maps which take up over 900Mb.
Have fun,

Further update.
Just managed to get TomTom Traffic working after a response to my support question. I hadn't appreciated I needed to update the device code in my TomTom Plus profile.
Thanks again for all the help.

I’ve installed Tom Tom Home after buying the maps “other device” download option. While I have a confirmation e-mail and the order information on the Tom Tom site tells me it has “shipped” Tom Tom Home tells me there in no download available. I’ll give them a little time before rattling their cage. |

Further to last nights post I checked with Tom Tom home this morning which did not recognise any download due. I also checked by logging on to the Tom Tom site directly to find the map ready to download. Completed the download of the ZIP file to my desktop, unzipped and installed onto my SD card from my PC via the wizard, all successfully if a little slow. I did not receive Tom Tom 6 and will make inquiries. After installing the activation code automatically the new map seems to work well.
