|
|
I know what a years subscription to Traffic or Traffic & Cameras cost as it is on the TomTom website.
However, Orange are not going to let me use their GPRS network free of charge whilst it is connected to my TT1 !
I did enquire and they said it was about £4 per Mb - how much time relates to a Mb ?
On average therefore, can anyone tell me, per hour, what is the typical cost whilst the mobile phone is interacting with the TT Plus services ?
Thanks _________________ DashCam:

on the tom tom site it says that the info is in bursts of 64kb..so if you have it to connect every 5 mins then an hour of traffic will be 768kb..remember you dont have to have traffic updates every 5 mins , 15 mins seems to be popular on the forum... _________________ *************************** |

Orange World is their data package, and charges from the Orange website today are 4Mb/month £3.80, 10Mb/month £6.81 and 25Mb/month £13.62. |

There is a useful table of the estimated traffic costs on TomTom's website here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

i'm in the same boat,,got loads of phones but none do bluetooth...maybe a cheap pay-as-you-go and only use it when you need traffic... _________________ *************************** |

Check out T-Mobile's web'n'walk and you get 1 Gig worth of data included rather than the miserable few megabytes..... _________________ Gone fishing! |

To be honest with you, I would try and activate a trial of traffic first, maybe borrow a bluetooth phone for a month and use your SIM card and trial it out. When I used it (trial and then subscribed--I'm a fool) it was woefully inaccurate.
I now have an inbuilt Satnav system that has TMC built in. Now, that is fantastic, much much more accurate. I do beleive though that people are also having problems with the TT TMC reciever so even this isnt an ideal solution for TT users.
Have a search round the forums before commiting yourself to either.

OK thanks
Currently I have one of the old TrafficMaster Freeway units velcro'd to the dash which I find invaluable.
That costs £30 a year. Shame you can't get them anymore. I bought 2 of them when Watford Electronics had a blitz a few years ago so I've got a spare.
If the TT traffic is as you say then a trial seems the way to go.
I did have a look in the Orange shop yesterday and there are a few BlueTooth units selling below £50 now. _________________ DashCam:

I'm curious as to why that may be as the data source is the same? _________________ Darren Griffin |

To correct an earlier posting in this thread - 2mb of data will last a month no problem
I use an old orange payg sim and phone and rarely top up more than £20 every 3 months (used only for tomtom) - I drive 40,000 miles a year and yes it is accurate and does work well - far far batter than when it introduced 2 years ago - not perfect but much better than relying on rds radio reports.
I have it set to 15 minute updates. The updates each time are around 3kb not 64kb. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

I can certainly get the weather - but I think this is a freebie to anyone who connects the phone to the service.
Not used it much - although it is accurate when I've tried it. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------
