Heard at Bluewater

The wife and I went to Bluewater this afternoon. TomTom had a stand in the concourse. Not selling, just demoing and pointing out which stores there sold them.

So we were looking at the display and Mr TomTom comes over.

TT:Do you need any help?
Me: No thanks.
Wife: Bit big aren't they?
Me: Can't put that in your pocket.
TT: This one you can (Leads us over to a TomTom One.)
Me: Actually I just bought a Mio....
TT: How much was that?
Me: 300 quid
TT: This is only 200
Wife: With all of Europe?
TT: Err, no - That's 250
Me: And what about TMC?
TT: What's that?
Me: The traffic stuff
TT: Oh yes - That's an extra 30
Me: We seem to be back to nearly 300
TT: Hmm.............

according to the TT web site, Europe maps are:
€99.95 download
€119.95 DVD
€149.95 SD card

a friend bought a TT One recently too only to find that it's not TMC compatible and relies on the GPRS service @ £39.95/year but the TMC receiver is quoted as £69.99 on their web site

slightly different to the prices given at Bluewater

hopefully the retailers selling the products knew more than the TT guy...but i doubt it :P

this reminds me of a couple of 'retail experiences':
i was once in an electrical retail outlet and made the fatal mistake of asking an 'assistant' for help...only for them to read the box...i had to bite my tongue because i was so tempted to remark that i could read and write and therefore had a better job than them but i kept quiet, turned and walked out only to buy the same product elsewhere
on another occasion i was in a computer retailer with a friend when a customer approached us and asked 'do you mind if i ask you a question because you sound like you know what you're talking about'
