I have the same problems running this software on an Acer N35.
Has anyone come up with a solution yet? |

As another "me too", I've just had this problem with TT6. Bought on an SD card and copied to my 512Mb CF card it all installed fine, but after every on/off of my 2210 all my Home settings etc., had gone. I then copied the original card to a new 1Gb CF card and re-installed from that all was fine. I've since found that the older 512Mb CF card was begining to show other "errors" so I've put my initial problems down to a faulty card.

Yet another me too!
This time it's 5.21 running on a T-Mobile MDA Compact III (really cool slim device with built-in GPS unit). Both Home and Favourites never survive exiting Tom Tom (without even switching off the unit).
I wonder if its something to do with parts of the application being installed to regular memory and some to the SD card, but I don't understand how it's so intermittent for some people.
Is there really no solution or explanation for this yet?

OK, since posting the above I found the solution in another thread!
Basically the problem is the map .cfg file (eg great_britain.cfg in a folder of the same name) is or becomes read-only. Windows Mobile can't show or change the attributes of a file, so this has to be done via Active Sync on your PC.
So the solution is to copy the [map].cfg file to your PC (if you don't already have a backup copy there), right click on that file and select properties, un-check 'read-only' and press 'apply'. Then copy the file back to the [map] folder on your PDA, overwriting the previous version. Voila! Now changing Home and adding Favourites are written to that file and will be retained when you exit TomTom.
It's worked for me! |

When I first upgraded to TT5 I used to get this problem all the time - I kept a backup copy of the cfg file on the SD card to use whenever it got reset to default. At the time I was using a standard Kingston 256MB SD card. I read somewhere that the problem was caused because the TomTom software (loaded in main memory) couldn't read the file quick enough from the SD card, and so assumed the cfg file was missing, and created a new version overwriting the existing file. I replaced the SD card with a Kingston 256MB Elite Pro Hi-speed version and the problem was solved. I am now using a Kingston Elite-Pro 50xspeed 1GB card, and again have had no problems. |

Hi Guys
I will tell you my tale and then you might all be able to make your minds up about this problem.
I had a 2210 for about 3 years and even posted on this thread back in March to say that I had no problems, at the time I had my maps on a CF card.
About 2 months ago I bought a 2790, same maps, same CF card no problems.
A week ago I upgraded my TT5 maps to the new TT5 version 6.6 which included main roads of europe. This was to big to go onto my 256 CF card so I bought a Viking 1Gb SD card because my CF card was also Viking.
In the space of one week I have lost favourites and POI settings 3 times!!
Now I dont think its any coincidence that the moment I change from a CF card to an SD card I get problems.
I would suggest that perhaps berger has the answer

After it happened for the 3rd time today I am now looking for a high speed SD card or I might even go back to a CF card.
I don't recall any problems with any CF card, everything I have ever read always refers to SD cards.
Well, that's my tale, make of that what you will guys.
Howard

I also meant to say that I have tried MarkBR's solution, as when I copied the file across to the PC it quite rightly had as Mark suggested the "read only" attribute ticked

So between the two of them I'm sure one will work.
