I have bought two sat navs i3.One just started to use,one still in the box.The one I am using comes up with update maps fpr uk.pay garmin and download map.I phoned carphonewarehouse and told them the situation and said no refund no update taking in to shop waste of time as bought on line.Been on the phone to online department for 30 mins pig sick of them. They will only refund within seven days.Bought on 11/11/06 one for mil christmas and one for wifes birthday, both now over seven days since purchased. One still in the box.Is there anywhere on this site with the map downloads or does anyone have them.Any help much appreciated. If anyone else buys one ask at the shop if the sat nav has the latest maps. |

I'm afraid you're out of luck. All the v8 units will soon, if not already display the map update message as v9 maps are soon to be released. I think you'll find that your unit will work just fine on v8 - just ignore the update message. Buying map updates from Garmin can be expensive, so you need to really work out if you actually need them. _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

That would be okay if I could stop it asking me to update every time I turn it on. |

If you purchased after 1st September your upgrade to v9 will be FOC when the maps are released in the new year. |

email I got from Garmin about the same problem :-
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe (UK)
Unfortunately you cannot update the mapping at present
This facilities expired 1st September 2006.
The reason for this is that we are bringing out a new version of mapping in
January (version 9)
If you are registered on the garmin website then you will notified by mail
of how and when to obtain the update disc
If you purchased your unit after 1st September you will be entitled to a
free upgrade
If not then you will be required to pay for the update ( $75)
You will need to pay this over the internet once you have popped the DVD
into the computer. |

Goody! I bought mine after the 1st Sept., so hopefully will get the upgrade free?
I seem to remember a post somewhere advising delaying registration till the new version comes out. So if I now register I'll be OK? |

we had this situation back in 2005 when peeps brought the i3 when it first come out..we pestered garmin and they agreed to give us a free v7 to v8 upgrade if we sent our v7 cards to garmin and they sent back a v8 card...don't know whether garmin will do this again or how they will get over the peeps with mapping on internal memory.. _________________ *************************** |

Have you read the previous posts in this thread? They give all the information that is available at the moment. _________________ Anita

Version 9 asking for an upgrade? I would check that and contact Garmin.
My v8 with 2.7 firmware doesn't show this message yet. I wonder if it's down to the firmware you use? |

Same set-up here, no splash screens for me either. Must be a firmware thing.
Mapsource on my PC, which has City Nav. Europe v8 and City Select Europe v6 loaded, threw up an alert a few times but no longer does. _________________ Chas

No warnings on my 3.2 unit yet. I'd have thought that the date of update was hard-coded with the map info, and that all units with V8 maps would request the update at the same time, i.e. one year (or so) after release? _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006
