If you copy the igo.db file to your PC, you can use SQLite Manager to examine and edit all of the data stored in the database including your own POI's.
I've been using the free version of the program which is limited to 20 data rows. If you want the unlimited version to import all your POI's there is a cost of $39.

Sally,
Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded SQ Lite Manager and have no idea how to use it so I may have to stick to my previous method.
It makes me sad that there isn't a real proper way of manipulating the POIs. Most other Satnav are capable of this. You would think that it should be a basic requirement.
Anyway. Thanks again

Hi DeeJay01.
I have to agree with you there.
POI handling is the one place Tom Tom beats the Mio.
On a Tom Tom you just copy your own POI files into your map folder on the device. All very windows.
Piece of cake.

I totally agree. I have added many poi's to my TomTom in seconds using my laptop. I have tried a couple of times to add poi's to my Mio with no luck at all. There are some good websites out there for poi's and they say they are compatible with the Mio(.csv) but what a performance to try and get them on the Mio.
I can't be bothered anymore. Till someone comes up with a drag and drop system like TomTom I shall just have to wait.

It's not too difficult if you check out the Help file. You need to Open the igo.db file and then click on the Manage tool. The POI data is in the tables WPOIGLOUP, WPOILABEL and WPOITREE. But I agree that unless you are not experienced in databases it's a steep learning curve.
According to 'fable' who was/is closely involved with iGO, the new software version was supposed to have POI import, but fable hasn't been around for some time and isn't answering PM's any more.

Well, I had a play for the first time with iGO POI Explorer (IPE), and it all seemed quite painless. What I did was:
1. Converted a list of a POI's from .ASC to .KML (There are programs around to do this, but they seemed a bit more complex than necessary so I knocked up my own simple utility).
2. Copied iGO.db from C710 to PC.
3. Ran iGO POI Explorer and imported iGO.db
4. Imported the .KML file into iGO.db
5. Exported the updated iGO.db to PC.
6. Copied iGO.db back to the C710
That's it - restart MioMap and the new POI's are in the right places under My POI's. All my settings are still there, untouched.

Tried this iGO POI Explorer beta.exe but when I try an run it a problem is reported and it closes down. i tried puting igo.db in same folder but it makes no difference. Any tips on this.
BTW I reported in another thread that I am having problems backing up my settings in User Data Management. This seems to occur when I introduce the larger igo.db with "My POIs" on it. Anyone else having this kind of problem? _________________ Reg |

Ah .... I'm rather embarrssed to say that I don't remember at the moment. I think I downloaded the kml files from a POI website which I am frantically trying to find again. I have files like
Harry_Ramsdens.kml
Accident_Black_Spots_UK.kml
National_Trust.kml
I am assembling them in an igo.db using PdI_Igo_Gest.exe _________________ Reg |

Sal,
I'm sure I used POIEdit.exe to convert the ov2 files from the GPSWorld zip files. They do work OK on my MIO except that I can't backup my settings on the Mio. It's crossed my mind that it's backing up the POIs as well but however long I leave it the backup does not seem to finish. _________________ Reg |
