Hi everybody :D
I bought my I3 back in April and have been very happy with it. I get the updates and have even used it to great effect on my motor-bike (I've added a headphone socket)
It's always had a noisy clickwheel which rattles but recently its been going up occasionally when scrolling down and became really erratic in this respect. It's now not going up and will only scroll down.
I'm not sure whether to contact Garmin as altho still in Warranty I have modified the unit by fitting a headphone socket.
Is it advisable to try and send the unit back or maybe try and buy the clickwheel from Garmin?
Any advice would be welcome
Kind regards

No, it's been working all summer but the scrollwheel has become more intermittent. When I say it doesn't go up I mean the highlighted selection on screen not physically the scrollwheel itself. |

Given.... Garmin IMHO being the model of customer service get it sent back.
My i3 wheel became unresponsive a month or so ago, it would go up and down fine but pushing to select was hit and miss. I knew it was around a year old, in fact a couple of days out of warranty. I emailed Garmin who gladly had it back, I posted it Monday morning, Thursday morning a new i3 arrived in the post.
That in itself is impressive but it gets better.....
This was a brand new unit but with my TF card in with all my POI's and custom voice still loaded.
Fantastic
So many companies and retailers really fall down with after sales service. It makes me happy to be able to confidently recommend Garmin products to Friends and Colleagues. _________________ -----------------------------------

Accepting they seem to provide excellent customer service, I rather expect they'll stop short of providing service for a unit that's been modified both electronically and physically (OP said he'd modified it to include a headphone socket).
Not that I'm suggesting that adding the socket was necessarily any reason for the wheel to go funky. It may have done naturally by having some manufacturing flaw, or material issue, or by the difference in environment being used on a motorbike compared with a car / van / truck / bus / coach. |

Deep Joy!
Garmin sent me a new unit.
I sent it off expecting to be contacted by them and to be honest I still would of bought a new one if they wouldn't give it under warranty as it was great.
Well impressed with Garmin :D
Think I might not modify the next one though, just in case.
Thanks to all who replied

That's an impressive response, by all rights they were entitled to laugh at your request yet they did the decent thing. Well done Garmin! _________________ Chas
