|
|
One thing that is beginning to annoy me after only a few trips with my new C710 is that it seems to switch between yards and fractions of a mile at random.
Is there anything I can change/hack/edit to make it all yards? I assume that if you have the device set to metric you don't get fractions of a Kilometer? _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

These are stored in the language zip collection in the distances files.
Might be worth a play around with these to amend as required. bear in mind that if you change the distances files then you need to ensure that you have the voice segment to go with the changes.
The IGO software forum would be a good source for some background reading.

Are you sure it switches randomly??
After countless miles with my C210, I have found that down to 0.4 miles, it gives the distance in miles. Anything less than 0.4 miles is given in yards.
I found this to be consistent with MioMap v3.0 and also with the upgrade to MioMap v3.2.
Is your unit behaving differently? |

Yes, as you get closer to a turn in changes to metres. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Hmm, I think I have heard more than 400 yards but now I am not so sure. Will keep an ear out for it :-) _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

Looking at the relevant distance file the standard UK male voice has voice command up to 400 yards. After that it reverts to franctions of a mile. |

Yes, you're right.
400 yards is the most and then it's fractions of a mile |

This may also depend on the voice file you have selected. I know that Philippa didn't initally speek "feet" but now she does, if you select it ("feet" being more common on this side of the pond). I haven't heard her switching terms though. You can check the csv file yourself to see what should be said when (and to change it if you want) _________________ Lutz

Having just come back from Germany I am very inclined to leave the thing on Kilometers. For all practical purposes at driving speeds you can treat them as yards and below one klick she says metres. - *and* Phillipa says motorway instead of highway :-) _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

i think it's personal choice and also what you're used to
each different system works differently with its own maps and algorithms so a few different settings won't hurt
i prefer miles/yards because it's easier to keep a check on the speed and road signs are still in miles but how long before the eu change that too? |

| Knowing the EU masters it will be Red Cars Monday, Blue Cars Tuesday, Silver cars Wednesday etc.
I thought lorries and coaches had been changed over already. :P

Well I'm not taking sides on the metric/imperial debate, but if we do want to keep our own standards like yards, pints etc then we have to accept that it will always cause us problems.
We pay very low prices for something like a GPS because it can be mass-produced and sold throughout Europe. We can't expect to receive all the benefits of standardisation, and yet demand special arrangements for our own little country. Fortunately for us the iGO/Miomap designers have included the extra complications of miles/yards/feet conversion in their software, but if they haven't got them quite right then we will have to live with it - or use metric.
