Hi all, great forum.

I'm new to gps devices and decided to buy one of the navman
530's from costco for £140 inc vat.
Costco at lakeside, essex had ran out and had replaced the offer with the navman n20 instead, so I picked this up for the same price.

Is the n20 the same as the Icn 530 or have I been swindled ?

Also, are any different voices available for the navman range ?

Thanks,

Warren.

Welcome Thumbs Up to the Forum.

The specifications are almost the same. The N20 has Navpix enabling you to navigate to pictures. Both use the T1 Traffic module. Personally, I would find it difficult to choose between them. Guess you have got a good deal. Unless other members know differently Question
The easy answer to you last question is, No. But there is always a 'but'. I think if you look through this forum there are instances of members cfhanging the wav files to change sounds.
Watch this space for more info from others.........

Thanks Gee-Pee,

I shall have a hunt through for the info on changing the .wav that could be quite handy.

I gave the n20 a go last night and have to say it's quite impressive.
The map screen seems to update a lot slower than my works tomtom one
but it doesn't make half the mistakes. Smile
The full postcode search is a lot better as well.

I'm unsure of the navpix feature though seems like clutter.
My wife will probable prefer it though Smile

Cheers,
Warren.

I have spoken to Costco this am and they tell me that they had no delivery of iCN530 but have been offered the N20 instead. My local Costco, Milton Keynes say that they are taking orders with Membership number and as soon as the delivery is received, they will contact those who have ordered and supply a voucher to buy the N20 at the same price as the 530.
FYI, I have checked current prices of both and find that the 530 has a usual price of ca £235 with one price found of£199 plus delivery on both. Whereas, the N20 has a usual price of ca £235 with one price found at £217. So, there appears little difference in the prices.. Specs are similar but the N20 has the gimmick of navigating to your picture destination - no camera but you can download pictures to install on the device. Wink

Gee-Pee,
Thanks for that,

After looking at a friends 530 today, The user interface on the n20 seems a lot easier for man fingers and I think the screen update is slightly faster.
But like you say, not a lot in it.

Im well happy with the n20. I just need to give it a work out.

Thanks,
Warren.

I think you have a good deal. Specs are virtually the same for each, both have the SiRFstarIII™ Generation 2 software - and both have the Samsung processor (300Mhz for the 530 and 400Mhz for the N20) - according to the reviews I have read.)
I hope to join you in due course then I will sell my present kit although it has served me well for a couple of years. Smile

I've just been out to get the 530, and come back with a receipt for an N20 (and the promise of a phone call).

Trying to find out whether the N20 has the same European maps as the 530 would? Any ideas - I've searched and have varying answers from "major european roads" "european unlock code-limited time), to "full european maps".

Thanks

My understanding is that both come with the latest 2006 maps - that does not mean the same as paper maps as those which you can buy, it takes time to bring mapping up to date for GPS use.

The devices will be loaded with local maps (ie for the UK they will be the UK), and the Base maps of Europe plus CDs with the street level maps of Europe. These have to be loaded on to a flash card. The whole of europe will not go on to a (say) a 1Mb SD card, so you have to load the modules that you need for any journey in Europe.
Some adverts say that the inclusion of the street level maps of Europe are for a limited time but they are certainly available with the purchase currently. Navman's web site says the N20 has a remote control but omit it for the 530. Perhaps they both have it Question

Just checked the box again and the map are the street level european maps.
Although I don't have a memory card yet so I haven't tested them.

Cheers,
Warren.

I would definitely have an N20 over an iCN530. I think the N20 is essentially the 530's replacement.

Just got this from Navman
Quote:
The 2006 maps release has unfortunately been delayed. We now expect the
maps for the 510/520 series around the 5th of December. The maps for
iCN530 are expected a little earlier, around the 18th November. The
iCN530 has the 2005 software & maps.

So, it looks as if the 530 still has the older maps, whereas, as Tim say, the N20 has the more up-to-date maps installed. Good deal? Yes!
