I have just purchased a GO 510 with 6.11 firmware on the box and have not opened it yet as I am unsure how old it may be.
Please can someone help me on this as I am concerned, hopefully for nothing.
Thanks for any help. |

Thats ok its the firmware when the equipment was manufactured it has now been updated to 6.51 see here http://www.tomtom.com/support/product.php?ID=234&Language=1&FID=5205
now go to http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 download TomTom Home this is used to update your firmware.
I would try the unit first out of the box to ensure all is ok before updating the firmware. |

if you update the firmware you wont be able to add TTS at a later date. |

TTS is Text To Speech, this is where the device can read out the street names and traffic information etc. It is only available on the TomTom Go-910 so I wouldn't worry about this issue if I were you. TTS is not a legal option for the 710 or 510 products - Mike |

Hi Mikealder
thanks for the prompt reply, I fully understand now.
Can you tell me if I have to register/activate my new device or anything. |

You don't need to activate the device it should work straight out of the box, but I would go to www.tomtom.com and create a user account (don't worry it won't cost anything)
On the right of the TomTomhome page is a heading My TomTom under which is "Create Account"
Once your account is up and running click the link that says "My Products" on this page you can enter your device specific information, product code etc.
It is worth doing as you never know when you might need access to the device number and with your product code card at home it gives you an easy option to get back the codes if/ when on the road - Mike |

Hi Mike
Thanks for the advice, I will create an account tommorrow.
I have been reading a lot of the information/ help on some of the forums, but as their is so much it gets a bit confusing.
I have backed up my SD card and I have just ordered a 1GB card to copy the original to.
I believe some people have had activation problems with the new card after doing this so wish me luck. |
