|
|
My local Halfords store (in Bolton) is now selling at half price, accessories for what I think is there own brand budget priced Navsure GPS product. I have a Navman icn 530 and noticed that both the mains adaptor and the car adaptor for Navsure 200i and 300i looked exactly the same as the one for my Navman icn 530. Furthermore they are only priced at £4.95 each which is a small fraction of the price charged by Navman (£24.95) and other suppliers. :D
I bought both these items and tested them and they work perfectly. They are Altec (Chinese) make and identically labled and identical in appearance to the Navman product. They also have an GPS ariel which looks to have a similar connector and was also very inexpensive. It is handy to have a second adaptor if you own a second car and the mains adaptor is handy when travelling with no computer to hand. Buying from this source surely makes this affordable though using it is at your own risk which in my opinion is negligable.
I am in no way connected with Halfords, just happy to share a cost saving experience with this forum so that others may benefit, |

I would be happy to use these - after all the device can't tell where the 5Volt came from. Provided the supply from the cheapy adapter is stable and doesn't spike the Navman into oblivion, it will be OK.
It is almost certain that the Navman adapter comes out of Asia, after all the iCN510/20 are Asian, and I think all their units are manufactured there now.
Just make certain it's 5V output. 8O |

The units are identical as far as I can tell. The spec. ie voltage & current are the same ie. 5.00 volt 1 amp output. the mains unit is dual voltage automatic switching with continental and uk slide on plug converters identical to the Navman. The labels and appearence are identical. I am sure they are the same unit. Only difference is the price. |

Just picked up a mag-mount GPS aeriel from Halfords, Sunderland from the same range - £7.50 and doubles the signal strength on my icn530. They had others (power supplies etc.) from the range in there. |

Is it likely that this cheap equipment is anything to do with robert's information posted on this thread [here] _________________ Gee-Pee

BTW first, to the Forum
I drove 8 miles this am to my local Halfords, Harlow and after waiting for service for ages. was told that one of the staff had gone home with the dislay cabinets keys. The asst Mgr knew nothing of this range & and told me to ring back later to speak to S.... 'who would know about the Altec range' tried that but they don't answer the 'phone. Oh well, I'll try elsewhere..tried again later and was told S....was at lunch, try again later. _________________ Gee-Pee

I discovered by accident that the in car charger for my Motorola phone, also works.. As they both can be charged from a USB cable, and share the same mini USB plug, its not that surprising. I only paid about £5 for that. Keep meaning to chop the plug off and change it for a plug to fit the T1 instead of the ridiculous adapter.

It is the Navsure range you should ask for. Altec is the only name you see in small print on the white label of the car plug module. It is this name you can see on both your existing icn 530 and the new identical Navsure plugs. |

Can anyone confirm the Navsure antenna does work with the 530?
Looking at their picture it does look like a different connector but this could just be a library shot.

I cannot say for the 530, but it does work for the N20. The connections are the same. The antenna has a mag mount. Certainly cheaper than the Navman equivalent. _________________ Gee-Pee
