Ask GEDD. He seems to have done it without an upgrade but doesn't want to tell how.... |

Hi
I suspect he downloaded the 7 digit postcode data from this site :-
http://www.poisoft.co.uk/downloads.htm
It does state :-
TomTom Postcode Overlay Software is compatible with TomTom GO and Navman.
I haven't tried it but using Google came up with the above

mmmm....I take it these postcode updates your on about are downloaded to your POI's.....i would rather wait for the offical Navman update than using my POI's for extended postcodes like the one's you can buy on ebay & the net, As i would rather use my POI's my important things.

Yes they are put in your poi folder and work very well but the trick is not to put in all so it don't cause a slowdown...anyway why put regions in that you won't use as they are split in four.....what inportant poi's are you talking about...poi's are very small anyway....i think the only large one is the cam database....oh and the upates are not free either so navman can keep their update and i'll stick with my poi posty's. :D |

I'm a bit confused by this thread!
Because I downloaded the POI's from POISOFT but as yet I haven't managed to load them into my Navman successfully. The Navman or Connection or PC or something locks up every time I try to load in the CSV file.
GEDD mentions 4 POIs but the download I got from POISOFT includes eight.
When I queried this problem with POISOFT they told me that each POI file could not contain more than 64000 entries and if I split up these eight files into smaller ones I ended up with e.g. three separate files for the Anglia.csv so that the overall total would far greater than eight!
Incidentally even though I have tried to split the files and load a file with a limit of 64000 entries I still lock up the Navman and so have not yet suceeded at all!

Hi Enri....sounds like you need a little help,
First off there are ten uk regions...there are four files named the same per region...you connect your navman to pc in activesync click explore...open storage card, then open navman, then my poi...whichever region you pick to install ex, pcang1 make sure you put all four same named files in...then activesync will then convert them....diconnect then ready to use in you poi's. |

Cheers GEDD but still not the answer for me. The files I downloaded from POISOFT were spreadsheet *.csv files e.g. Anglia.csv, Northeast.csv etc.
Which I was then trying to load / convert into the navman into the relevant *.chk *.bm *.ini & *.map files needed in the Navman using the smart st software.

Just point the POI Editor to the csv File of your choice. _________________ Richard

Hi Oldboy,
That's exactly what I'm trying to do when the system - navman or pc hangs!

When I obtained the POISOFT postcodes I managed to load the Midlands set in one go but it took my computer all night ( set it going at 9:00 pm and when I woke next morning at breakfast it had managed to do the conversion from the csv file and was waiting for me to upload to my NavMan 520). Task Manager showed that the Navman desktop and the POI Editor were not responsing but my hard drive light kept flashing and it has worked.
Hope this helps!! |
