Auto Switching Day & Night View on Go 700

Forgive me if this is in a FAQ somewhere. I have spent over 40 mins searching and couldn't find an answer.

I have upgraded my TTG 700 with TomTom HOME today and so far, so good.

One huge failing on the device for me is the switching of day / night view. Linking to the headlights I don't like, as there are many reasons to have lights on in the daytime.

I found the autoswitcher software at http://www.automated.it/ttg-apps.html some time ago, but it would not run on OS V5.42, so I doubt it will run on V6.

Possible a light sensor could be added to give the "lights on" signal to the unit, but that would mean buying the full car kit, which I don't need for any other reason, and I'm reluctant to have a cradle on view full time.

The idea of the autoswitcher is great - using time of day. Anyone know of a solution?

I've got to admit, I'm surprised it's not built in.

The Garmin i3 had this feature. It worked a treat (the feature, not the Garmin!)

The x10 have a light sensor, but I don't think it works - I've driven at night rather a lot and it's never switched once.

The new x10 Tom Toms have auto switching (or at least some of them do), but that works using a small light sensor on the unit. Since the x00 series don't have that bit of hardware the use of the 6.xx software makes no difference - it won't support auto-switching.

On the x10 series you need to go to Change Preferences/ Brightness Preferences (you might need to select Preferences/ Show ALL menu options to actually see this) - once you are in the Brightness Preferneces screen make sure the two tick boxes are selected (Turn brightness down when dark and Switch to night view when dark), also that the two sliders for day and night are at different levels - then the unit should auto switch - Mike
