The 310D is a Garmin bundle, not a Halfords one, so will be the same wherever it's bought from (saying that, some people have found Halfords have added a 256Mb SD card and/or a mains charger into the deal). |

Hi RDS
I saw the post on here a couple of weeks ago about the rumoured 600 model nuvi but when I emailed Garmin UK they said that they knew nothing about this. Do you have any other info?
I am fed-up with my 310D now, it seems that for every step forward there are two steps back!
Cheers - Nick |

It looks as if the TMC receiver isn't built into the 660 unit but just an included GTM21 for Europe (GTM20 in the US).
I originally thought 'intergrated' would be something a little more sophisticated than just bundled accessory.
Presumably after all the GTM12 issues Garmin will at least ensure the GTM21 does what it's meant to do. However past experience has meant I'm going to wait for some others to do the product testing for me. |

My understanding is that the GTM20/21 is only an antenna, and that the FM receiver is actually built into the unit itself (but as I've stated elsewhere I'm not 100% sure on this point).
Certainly, I would want to see more information about the new Nuvi before recommending it as a "better solution" - especially to see how well the RDS-TMC works in the UK :D |

I have just had the following back from Garmin:
"Garmin US are looking into a fix, this will be in the form of a replacement
power cable as it can't quite kick out enough power as there is some 'noise'
in the cable which is draining some of the power to the Nüvi and GTM. I have
added your details to the list so we will send you the new cable once we
have it which is still yet to be confirmed."
I will keep you posted on what happens. |

This is why 3 USB 2 High speed cables have all worked for me without issue. USB2 must have better sheilding because I cant get 1 single USB 1.1 cable to work.

Update:
With USB 1.1 the Level in the Secret Menu hardly ever goes above 4, sometimes 5.
With the USB 2.0 Cable, the Level is on 7+
Level 7 seems to be the min you need to get messages. On anything below 7, the messages stop coming in.

Seeing all the testing done here maybe Garmin will throw a few freebies our way, just for long term evaluation of course |

I have to say, Weighing up all my options and requirements i think im going to go buy another 310D and see what happens. Garmin says that the new batches are consistantly better so im going to try my luck.
I want Navteq Maps.
I want TMC
and i want it under £400
and when it worked the Nuvi and GTM12 were superb,
The only other thing i would consider is a Trafficmaster system with the endless subscritions and extortionate unit costs. |

I've just returned from a holiday in France. I was travelling to our destination and got caught up in a traffic jam just north of Nante. Unfortunately I wasn't using the GTM12 at the time as I was using the power cord to charge my MP3 player.
On coming to a complete standstill I plugged in the TMC and power to recieve the traffic report. Nothing for 20 minutes! When I eventually got a traffic report there was nothing on the snare up to get onto the Nantes equivalent of the M25. On getting to the next junction I pressed detour on the Nuvi. Unfortunately it locked up. After a power on and off it got us quickly through Nante and on to our destination.
Conclusions:
On my unit TMC appears to be affected by level of battery charge on the Nuvi.
Secondly - I won't subscribe to V-traffic once the 3 month trial expires. |

Well I'm afraid I have jumped ship and taken my Nuvi 310D back to Halfords, if and when they sort the traffic problems out I will probably buy another one.
According to the chap at Halfords I was the first person to return one of these and he knew nothing about a problem, I told him that Garmin where trying to resolve the problem but he said he only had my word for that ! and that I would have to go back, so I asked him to ring Garmin and check, he did so and got through in about 2 minutes, they said that it would be another month before a fix would be available.
I liked the unit but the poor customer feedback and lack of information has taken the shine off what should have been a great product. I will now watch this forum and wait ! |
