Overall very happy with new purchase. Robust & Reliable.

However maps inadequate once you come off the roads.

Have Memory Map and want to use these when walking/cycling.

Copied files onto SD card ( handbook says no more than 512 MB yet I see others using 2GB - views ?)

PDA doesn't load maps or recognise them at all - do I need a special program or just to activate them.

Also can I drag the existing driving maps onto the machine, leaving SD cards for more detail or will that cause a conflict ?

Grateful for any help. Crying or Very sad

I think what you are trying to do will not work. Generally speaking you can only use the maker's maps on sat nav units. So yours will probably only use Navman maps. As I understand it the Navman, like the TT, is for road navigation only.

Peter, the PiN570 is a PDA, not a PND. It should be able to run third party apps just as any other PDA can. You might have to tweak things, turn the GPSR on manually, etc., but it should all work.

Al283, on the assumption that you have installed MM onto your PiN from the MM Desktop programme, you then need to transfer maps using this app. as well. IIRC you only get the choice of 'visible map' or 'whole map', the latter being the whole of your unlocked maps.

Hi,

Yes, nearly all maps can only be used with the software for which they are intended. However, the Memory Map application will run on most PPCs (but not Palms) and a few smartphones.

To load the MM application onto a PPC you need a licensed version on your PC and the *latest* version of Active Sync (to transfer MM v5). Then you may need to prepare the maps before you can send them to the PPC, via Active Sync, or (better) a card reader. This is because all PPCs can NOT open a map *file* larger than 300 - 400 Mbytes (depending on the card speed). The maximum *card* size depends on the model of PPC.

With the earlier MM 2004 product, you can transfer complete .QCT map files (and .QED elevation data), but the latest v5 map files are too large. The best way to cut these maps, is to surround a suitable area (e.g. half of a v5 regional map) with a closed route, right-click on the route and select : operations : send enclosed route to PDA (card reader).

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks for your help.

Have managed to install MM on PDA - at the moment installing single maps on memory card. Have old version of MM - Lake District only 120MB.

Re-installing Active Sync and Smart Suite to ensure both on latest versions.
