|

I am off to Spain in a few weeks, but have a few questions about how to best use my Streepilot i3 whilst I'm there.
Ok having read the forums it appears I have 3 options:
1. Buy a separate SD card from somewhere like this
http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/garmin-spain-portugal-maps-on-micro-sd/10097/
with pre-loaded maps on,
or,
2. Buy metroguide Europe (already have v6 - is this ok to use?), and a transflash card from somewhere like this:
http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=microSD%5FSanDisk%5F512mb%5F001
Then load up img2GPS to get navigation.
3. Buy a new sat nav system with proper European maps (recommendations welcome) & sell my streetpilot.
Before I chose which to go for can someone answer some questions about option 2.
How good is the ease of use etc using metroguide & img2GPS compared to using the pre-programed card? Can I still type in postcodes etc & just start navigating - or is there more to it?
How do I actually transfer the metroguide maps to the GPS (do i do it from the mapscource software?), and how do I transfer img2GPS to the card - do they need to follow a specific directory structure etc.
Do I need to set up POI's before i go or can I do it without the PC?
On my PC the metroguide maps seem very basic and does not include small roads - will it be better when it is on the streetpolit?
Option 1 seems more straight forward + I will have the option of selling the card once I get back & hopefully getting most of the outlay back.
But Option 2 appeals to the geek in me who likes to fiddle to get things working. But I don't want the wife to start complaining if it doesn't work "straight out of the tin". I am already aware of the roundabout problem.
Apologies for the long post, and thank you very much for your help. |

I bought a Garmin mapping card and it was fantastic.
Before we went I picked some places that we wanted to go to and got the coordinates from multimap and imported those as POI.
No problems with mapping and it impressed me hugely by knowing to "exit right" from motorways and taing me the "wrong" way around roundabouts.
Easy option but it wors very well with no worries - if you get it wrong with your other option it will be too late to do anything about it whilst you are out there! |
