take soooooo long to lock on to satellites and get a position ?

I tested one yesterday, on batteries, and it took a good 5 minutes to get a lock and that was about 200 metres out

do these have older chipsets, i.e. not SiRF3 ?

the first initial lock-on should take only about 5-10 minutes max with a clear view of the south ...my first lock took only 2 minutes ...i suppose it depends where the sats are at the time so your 5 minutes is about right ...the i3's dont have sirf3...is this why you are selling it?

no, SWMBO didn't like it [1] so, instead of having 2 different systems, I'm keeping TomTom

You also get quicker locks if you keep batteries in it when its off. Mine takes about 30 - 45 seconds if i haven't used if youy a few days.

I thought the downloaded almanac was good for a couple of months. So it *ought* to warm start quickly inside that period.
