I have a TomTom One running 6.14 application sw
It has a 2G SD fast memory car.
I formated the card to FAT ( it was FAT32 ).
I am running XP SP2 as administrator.
I bought the all of Europe seven plus maps download from TomTom.com for 120 Euros.

First I make a backup of the original SD with UK map and speed camera database.

Then I put in the 2G SD and do restore.

Now I load up any two of my downloaded maps, and all three ( the original UK plus the two new ones ) will work.

Now I load up a third downloaded map and when I do Change Preferences / Manage Maps / Switch map I find that the third downloaded map is not there.

Now I fire up TomTom Home and according to that program I do actually have four maps installed. It's just that the menu doesn't let me select that fourth one to actually use it.

So no I delete one of those first two downloaded maps. But this does not allow me to use the third one, and it doesn't seem to actually release the space off of the SD memory either.

Basically to use that third download I have to reformat the SD card and start again.

I have tried all of the maps and they all work individually ( actually I didn't try UK ).

I bought that 2G card so that I could just put all of the maps on and leave it, I really wanted to avoid the hastel of hooking up to a PC every time I go to another country.

Can anyone help ?

I just found that I don't actually have to reformat the card to install a new map.
If I delete on using the TomTom menu then I can load another map and it does then work.
I still can't get more that three though.

I've tried FAT and FAT32
I've tried installing straight to the TomTom
I've tried installing to a folder on the PC and copying it over
I've tried XP and I've tried Windows 98
I even ran scandisk in 98
Sometimes I can see three map and sometimes four.
Strangely the TomTom is actually deleting the maps it can't use off of the SD memory.
I'm coming to the conclusion that the TomTom can only see the first half of the SD memory.
Whem the TomTom is connected to the PC then Windows can see and use all of the drive. I proved this by filling it up with divx movies and then playing the last one off of the drive
The problem is that when the TomTom boots up as a navigator it can't see all of the drive then.

Damn and blast + fiddlesticks Sad

I've found exactly the same problem. If I open Home, I can see the 4th installed map but when I go try to switch maps, I only see 3.

I think that might be because of the files on the fourth maps has gone over 1Gb, and some haven't. Therefore the TomTOm doesn't delete the folder and TomTOm Home can still see it, but the actual TomTOm software doesn't recognise that map because it can't see all of the files.

I'm guessing though. Looks like this new application software has messed up handling of 2G SD memory sticks. I never tried with the old load so I can't say for sure.

I raised this issue with TomTom and they told me to delete all of the files that are not in folders and then gave me a link to install a new application which looks like version 5.44 Rolling Eyes
I have mailed them back to ask what functionality I will lose.
I have a beta version 6.15 that someone gave me to install but I've not tried it yet. May have a go a that instead if TomTom don't get back to me soon.

interesting
this suggest that 6.15 isn't far off and will hopefully get 2G SD to work. here's hoping...

When I had V5.44 I had 7 Maps on the SD Card, all of which I was able to use.

At the moment, with 6.14, I have 5 Maps. All of which I can access.Confused

I just updated to 6.15 using TomTom Home.
It all seems to work fine, and finally I can see all seven of my maps (all plus maps except the original UK map).
I have a TomTom One with a 2G Kingston Elite Pro SD card formatted as FAT (not FAT32).

That's interesting.

I've always (when needing to) reformatted to FAT32.

From a TomTom point of view what are the pros & cons of each method??
