|
|
I noticed a very strange behaviour yesterday on my MIO P550 running with TomTom v5.21.
I started VisualGPS before starting TomTom. After getting a solid fix with signalstrength ranging from 27 - 42 on 8 - 9 satellites I started TomTom. Signalstrength dropped in VisualGPS with about 30 - 40 % the moment TomTom started. It seams as if the signalstrength builds up over time, but it never got up over 40 on any satellite.
Does anyone have an explanation to this strange behaviour? |

It takes a couple of minutes for Tomtom without VisualGPS to get a fix. When I start VisualGPS to begin with I normally get a fix within 5 - 15 seconds and I end up with getting Tomtom to work a lot faster than without VisualGPS.
That's simply why. |

probaly a stupid question but where do you get the PDA version of visualGPS (and for that matter CE monitor) ?
I can only find PC version of Visual GPS, not the PDA version.
Ditto CE monitor.
I've just got a P550 and really like it. The only thing that seems poor is GPS signal in Tom Tom (signal is fine using pocket stret maps with Microsoft Autoroute).

I've just concluded an analysis using VisualGPS with and without running TomTom v5.21 at the same time. Both analysis done driving exactly the same 45 minutes drive.
Average signal level with TomTom (partly clouded) = 24.55
Average signal level without TomTom (clouded) = 31.44
A 28 % increase in average signal level without TomTom in worse weather conditions. Seams as if TomToms GPS driver is rather cr@ppy and f*cks up the GPS? |

Now try Winfast Navigator CE from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=15 and instructions http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=16 and you'll find the fix is even faster. It has to be TT that slows it down.
In Winfast go to Tools - Port Setting - NMEA Protocol - Port: GPS_HWCOM COM2: Baud Rate 4800, OK
Connect and go to Tools - Command - NMEA and try change the GLL setting to 1 or 2 and change the VTG to 0 then click OK.
The settings should read GGA 1, GLL 1 (or 2), GSA 5, GSV 5, RMC 1, VTG 0, MSS 0, User 0, User 0, User 0.
Wait for the locks then Disconnect and Exit.
Now try TT.
Each time you use Winfast, make sure you Disconnect before Exiting, otherwise it wont release the Port. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
