Taken from http://www.kentandmedwaysafetycameras.org.uk/cameras_page03.html
Quote: | Fiction
I received a fixed penalty notice and I was only going 32mph in a 30mph zone.
Fact
It would be extremely unusual for any driver to be fined or prosecuted for travelling at 32mph in a 30mph limit. Our Partnership does not operate at levels often described as 'zero tolerance'. We follow guidelines issued by the Association of Chief Police Officers not to prosecute motorists unless they are recorded as going at 10% plus 2mph over the posted speed limit. In the case of a 30mph limit that would be 35mph. This is to safeguard against any discrepancies there might be between speedometers and police equipment. |
And yes it is a 70mph zone, i would suggest you post on the pepipoo forums and get some advise, and it would also be worth putting the above quote in with your post as obviously the medway partnership are not conforming to there own statements. You were also done by a LTI20/20 i suggest you look for any threads in pepipoo as there are plenty of issues with this laser detector.
Regards
Peter |

Are you absolutely sure it was you driving? If other people are insured to drive your car and you can't remember who was driving they will often drop the case unless the photo identifies the driver. See http://forums.pepipoo.com/ for information.
Hmmm, 74 MPH. Are you sure it wasn't a 60 limit. 8O _________________ Gone fishing! |

Hi,
So have we decided what the cameras on the long poles are on the A249 then ?
I go through them everyday and always wonder "speed or tax disc camera?"

Dear Paul,
Thank you for your email.
These are traffic monitoring sites: the Ł100m design and construction of the new bridge and associated roads has been funded through the private finance initiative by Sheppey Route Limited, who will operate the A249 from Stockbury to Sheerness for 28 years on behalf of the Highways Agency. During this concession period Sheppey Route Ltd will receive payments from the Highways Agency calculated according to journey reliability and safety of the A249 and the TMS will assist the Highways Agency and Sheppey Route Ltd in the monitoring and assessment of the performance. TMS are not used for the purpose of speed enforcement or prosecution for driving offences.
For further information please contact the Highway Agency.
Hope this helps
Kind regards

Nice bit of detective work there!
Not sure what the policy is on these things but perhaps you could submit this as a "speed camera" location so the guys can log it in the database with the note that it is infact NOT a speed camera but a traffic monitoring camera.
That way it doesn't cause confusion/waste time when someone tries to report it at a later date. _________________ Gone fishing! |

let me throw in my twopence worth , I have this week been installing the cable work and wiring for ANPR cameras on the A338 Ringwood to Bournemouth, they will be bridge mounted and the engineers I was working with say in their opinion they will be used for far more than ANPR , my own feeling is that the specification and amount of cable work used in the installation doea back up the engineers opinion , watch out brig brother is here to stay..... |

Hiya Everyone,
I noticed this morning on the A249 just before the round about the end (as you go towards M2, maidstone, etc) there is a new camera...its like a temp camera, not much higher than the black ones.
It is basically a CCTV camera on top of a pole, bottom half the pole is yellow, and there are some yellow rings just under the camera? There is one of both sides of the A249.
Just wondering if anyone knows what they are, as there are already CCTV cameras there? |

Are we talking about the roundabout under the M2 at the Maidstone plus Sittingbourne/Sheerness turn off, where the traffic lights are?
If so where do they sit in relation to the lights/roundabout etc and can you get a picture? _________________ TomTom Go 60

I will try and get a picture tonight when I go home...I will get the exact location of them as well.
It does look like a bit of a bodge job, as the CCTV camera is being held on top of the pole with some wiring thats just been put round it
Anyhow, will post pics/more details as soon as I have some! |

Hiya, not managed to get a picture...Someone phoned me just as I wanted to...hehe
Anyhow, as you come off the M2, then join the A249 (so you are going towards the sheppey bridge) literally about a minute, at driving 70mph, you will see the camera thingy on the left hand side.
I have tried looking for pictures, but cant find anything! If it is a speed camera it might of cought me on Saturday...will have to wait and see |

I'm not sure whether MaFt would appreciate the reporting of NOT A SPEED CAMERA. That would mean that he would get reports on pretty much every ANPR and traffic monitoring cam in the UK and elsewhere. Do we then have to verify them all as NOT being speed cams? Our camera submission page says specifically that we do NOT want reports on NON Speedcam cameras. I,m sure that MaFt will have something to say about this |
