|
|
I have read that the Acer N35 is not up to the required technical spec to run D6 and that it freezes etc.
Can anyone confirm this to be the case as I have heard running lots of POI can also cause slow down etc.
I was thinking of TT5 as this apparently works ok, but have just read a thread on this forum whereby many users have slated it, particulary the fact the maps are very out of date, so I am even more confused.
Someone else has also mentioned Route 66 version 7, but not sure if that will be ok on the Acer N35.
What are other Acer N35 users running? What do you think of it?
Many thanks for your help.

Just read the spec for the Acer n35 and with a 266MHz Samsung processor it is never going to fly.
Obviously a careful choice of software is going to be required. The review I read said that it had WM2003 not the SE version so you don't get screen rotation etc.
I have a feeling that Destinator 6 needs (or at least recommends) WM2003SE - this could be the reason for reported issues.
My TTN5 was originally running on an IPAQ 3970 (400MHz xScale processor) with WM2003 (not SE) which is more like your n35 in performance. It ran fine on this platform and if you prefer landscape screen orientation (I do) TTN5 with do rotation itself without requiring operating system support. Destinator V6 does not do this - rotation is only available from WM2003SE onwards.
Good luck! |

With some tweaks D6 runs really fine on the n35:
(all data will get lost on your PDA, so backup what ever you have to backup)
- get and flash the v2.1 boot loader
- get and flash the WM2003SE v2.10.12 ROM-Upgrade
(I don't know the english files, but in the German-files flashing instructions are only included in the 1.40.33 ROM-file, so might be usefull to download it)
The new bootloader and WM2003SE gives you screen rotation and an increased ROM-Storage (12MB instead of 2MB)
To modify the registry, you will need a registry-editor, like PHM-Regedit: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/Default.aspx
Set the cache for the SD-Card to 8MB:
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\FATFS\CacheSize:dec16384
Set the cache for the ROM-Storage to 2MB :
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\FlashDrv\FATFS\CacheSize:dec4096
A soft reset is required to activate the changed settings.
Install D6 in main memory and test it.
If everything runs fine, move it to the ROM-Storage. (the link in the programs menue has to be replaced)
memory should be optimized for program memory. Slider to the right; about 8MB data memory and about 30MB program memory. (hope my memory types are translated right, since I run the German Windows version)
The D6 performance on the n35 should be increased significant. (try an international route (like London-Paris) before and after and poste the calculation times _________________ D7

The maps have to be on the SD-Card in \DestinatorApps\DestinatorApps\
for example the MRE in \DestinatorApps\DestinatorApps\EURoads_EW_AD _________________ D7

does this mean that if I have the screen rotation on my Acer N35 it has already had the flash upgrade done. I ask because I had to send the unit for repair as the connection for sychronisation and charging the battery had broken and it was sent by the retailer to Acer for repair. I noticed the the screen rotation was present on its return. My ROM storage is 12.32 MB.
I see that in About the version for Windows Mobile is Windows Mobile 2003 second Editon version 4.21.1088(build 15102.3.0.1) is given. Is this the correct version after the flash has been applied?
I have a feeling that this may have been done after repairs had been carried out. _________________ Acer N35

Yes, your n35 has the new flash upgrade. _________________ D7

Thanks for confirming the flash has been done.
I take it it is the flash the adds the screen rotation information and you cannot do it by any other means or copy to another PDA? _________________ Acer N35

Thanks to Rock and others for their input on this.
I wrote to Destinator support about D6 running on the Acer N35.
This is what they said "You have not to concern. The Software Destinator 6 run with Acer N35. It would be a bit better to use a Sd card GB high speed with it to enhance the performance, that is all."
I already have the rotation too, also WM2003 SE, so I assume that everything will be ok. I thought what support said about installing it on a high speed SD card was interesting.
Anyway, thanks again.

Hi Rock once again you came up trumps with the virtual viewer tool. works fine with the Acer N35 no problems so far and the display seems a bit clearer but that just may be my eyes playing up again Still experimenting with all the variations that are available.
Top man
