I have TomTom Nav 5, just upgraded to 5.210. I want to load some more european maps on to Storage Cards, but I cannot get the installation disc or the map discs to run at all - just get a small error message: Cannot read file.
I can explore the disc, so it's not the DVD drive.
I'm on vacation next week, and If I cant get this sorted soon, I'm knackered!

I fopund that nugget of advice in the TT FAQ, but I've looked in the Temp folder via %tem% through the Run menu. No sign of a setup.exe
Any other suggestions? |

A common fault with using discs is that people believe that DVDs and CDs can still be read when they have finger marks etc on them. This is true of Music CD but affects Data cds/DVD. Take a look at your disc, the side that is to be read. If any marks are there then remove them using a tissue and some decent furniture polish. Pledge works well. When polishing do not do it in circles but from centre to outside to remove any marks. The fault maybe that the file needed is being masked by dirt or smudges. The mere fact that the disc can be 'explored' is that the file table and header can be read but the rest of the file may be the part that is blurred. Only when you try to execute the file does this problem occur.
Then try and re-read the disc.
Hope this helps.
We often look for software faults when they are simple hardware faults. First steps always with removeable media is to make sure it can be read by the machine. _________________ Mystery
