Pin entry. it seems to allow an unlimited number of attempts, and is easily bypassed if you have a rudimentary knowledge of electronics. I would prefer an alpha numeric 4-8 chars, with a variable lockout, and a loud whoo, whoo I've been stolen alarm.
The colours seem more pastel - nice.
The installer is pants. The programmer obviously understands xml, but doesn't understand windows
The pc remote control is fun, and might be possible to make my own interface. |

Also: buddies is very cool indeed but I don't reallyt know how often it update positions . It's not straightforward to update buddies' positions or check where they have (have to navigate through 4 differnt submenus?)
New weather feature is very cool.
Navigating to Coordinates is very cool.
Being able to send coordinate or POIs to buddies is very cool
All in all it seems like it's being a very well worhtwhile update.... |

My experience is similar to Simians. But, I thoughtthat the extended voices application was version specific? Would someone please enlighten me?
Cheers,

Hi guys,
your feedback is very interesting and useful - thanks!!!
IMHO - It would have a lot more value if you could add a signature with what kit you are using, mobile phone etc. To help other forum users.
I'm currently using the kit listed below and I'm looking to change soon - This is the kind of post I look out for.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from - no offence mean't etc... _________________ Thanks,

Hi Chris,
I've been very happy with the 500 device. So much so that I bought a second one last Monday. This was for my step-daughter's boyfriend to use (he has just moved from Sheffield to Nothampton to start a new job that involves quite a lot of moving around this - for him - unfamiliar area). I've had my 500 for just under a year and have found it to be very useful indeed.
The 500 seems to work very well with my Nokia phone - though its performance with SMS messaging is a bit erratic. This is not an issue for me as I don't get too many SMS messages anyway.
The newer of the two devices (used by the boyfriend) is the one on version 5.44. He is very pleased with it - although I have not yet had time to put Ray Flanagan's extended voice warnings on to it yet. The revised files are sitting on my PC waiting for him to visit!
My own experience with the 500 has also been very positive. It has let me down a few times but these have all been the result of local authorities making changes that have clearly not yet been processed by Teleatlas. My only real gripe with the Tomtom is with the Trafffic (so called) service. I have found that the traffic information tends to be very much out of date and nowhere nearly as useful as that delivered by Trafficmaster. Because of this I tend to have a Trafficmaster unit and the Tomtom in use at the same time. A bit of a b****r but not really too serious.
I am hoping that Ray Flanagan updates his excellent voice software soon so that I can return to listening to the lovely sounding Liz Whittaker cautioning me about speedcams again. (But, having said that, I do tend to use the cruise control fitted to my car to save me from being photographed by the authorities!)
As far as v 6.12 ia concerned, I don't really have enough experience to comment, except to say that I thik that some of the features seem to bee very sensible. I particular, I like the ide of the 'password' feature - even though it is a bit flawed. I hope that this might discourage the toerags from nicking this type of accessory.
All in all. I have been very pleaed with the Tomtom products (Traffic excepted) and am looking forward to being able to activate the Liz Whittaker voice warnings from Ray's site when he has done the necessary!

Thanks Colin....
How did you upgrade your 500 to 6.12?
I'm intersted in giving this a try on my 700.... _________________ Thanks,

Chris,
It wasn't too difficult. I downloaded the zip file from:
Edit one mikealder to remove link, please do not post links such as this, when TomTom sort out what is wrong with the software they will make it available properly from their own web site.
Followed the instructions in the readme file, but had to edit the .toc file to point to the correct folder. (Also had a bit of fun with the .cab file as it had lost its extension in unzipping.)
Mde a couple of copies of the SD card, one on a CD the other on the hard drive (OK so I'm windy :D :D ) Put the SD card into the reader on the PC. Started the HOME application, and it offered the upgrade.
When it was completed I did have to do a couple of resets, after which it all worked fine.
Hope this helps,
Cheers, _________________ Colin |
