Just seen Chic already posted his help, but typed it already so here is mine.
Hopefully between the two posts, you should solve your problems.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, here goes! (Can't promise all steps are included, but from memory, this is what i did)
1. Install V8 maps to PC from DVD by following on screen instructions.
2. Once complete go to 'My Garmin' unlock site
http://www.garmin.com/unlock/
3. Log into MyGarmin (I first needed to register using my Registration Code on yellow piece of paper included with City Select V7)
4. This will take you to the Mapsource Unlock Page
Here you should see details of your C320 unit serial number etc and MapSource® Product as City Select V7 C320
If this is not listed you probably never unlocked your V7 software and have just been using the pre installed mapping. I guess V7 needs to be unlocked first with the V7 25 character code again on the Yellow piece of paper.
5. If you do see your unit and map details on the above page click on the unit link
This will take you to Mapsource Unlock page
( i Get an error on this page at the top but just scroll down to see the complete page)
6. Near the bottom of the page you get a 'Unlock Update Disk' link, click on this.
This link was not active until this morning
7. Now follow the on screen instructions, you will be asked to confirm various bits and pieces including the regions to unlock (i.e. All Regions) but eventually you will be given another 25 character unlock code for V8 maps.
8. Either write this down or copy it to the clipboard
9. Next open up your Mapsource Software, it should tell you that City Navigator V8.02 has not been unlocked. Select and Click unlock
10. The unlock wizard will start and ask you to Select 'you have 25 character code', enter it when prompted.
11. Install maps - details here, enter 'mapsource' as the search term.
http://www.garmin.com/support/faqs/search.jsp
Once again can't promise above is 100% correct but should hopefully help.

I finally battered this into place, does it have to be like this?
Impressions?
1, The routing is still shite
2, Many more POIs, very useful, of those near me a large part are in the wrong place, shame.
Overall? still shite. |

Thanks to chic and Ian47 for the pointers, fyi - I had registered my V7 but my garmin account but did not have my original V7 mapping assocaited with the account - when I gave ti the original 7 char code it showed me my unit ID and serial no and said "is this you" - after I said yes, waited a very long time, said yes again, I could then go on and get the 25 char code for unlocking the update |

Rupert,
This happened to me too,
Unfortunatley you need to go all the way back to your MyGarmin account settings - you'll find that the wonderful website has decided that you live in the USA, even though you entered UK!
you should also enter a phone number in the relevant field (even though it's not a 'required' field
Also watch out on the 'tick box to accept mail from third parties' - that managed to tick itself after I clicked continue!
As you can tell I went through this more than a few times! blinkin' useless system!
hope this helps ! |

Cheers peeps,
Thanks to the help on here I got as far as I could on the Garmin site last night. Unfortunately the new account just kept telling me that the unit was already registered. Tried again this morning and I got the "is this you?" prompt. Registered...got code...hey-presto...postcodes at last! Site was running very slow last night so maybe the update recognition thingy can take a while.
Transferred the whole of Europe to my 2GB Sandisk SD - 1hr 40mins - ouch. |

Well i tried to update mine to v8, but on registering the unit i noticed the paperwork in the box is for a different unit serial number. No point unlocking it if it's going to unlock it for a different unit, so currently awaiting a response from Garmin Tech Support.
