My quest displays the message "Can't unlock maps" each time I power it up Sad Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?

There is no unlock code in Mapsource for the maps you are loading. What maps are you using and where did you buy it?

Hi Robert, thanks for the prompt reply. The unit that is "playing up" was bought brand new by myself last May. I bought it from GSPW and loaded V7 to my PC. I also bought a second hand unit (from a reputable guy) yesterday, this unit is only 6 months old as he gave me the original invoice. He also purchased his from GSPW. He had recently upgraded with V8 mapping.
As I had bought the second unit for my wife, I loaded V8 to our PC...........Is this where I have gone wrong????????
I recieved the unlock codes etc. for Mapsource V8 and installed it to our PC. Is this now why my original unit cannot unlock maps?
If this is the case, what can I do to remediate the problem????
Thanks for any help in advance.
Willie

Unlock codes are unit specific. In otherwords the unlock code for CN8 on your second unit will not work with your first unit. Therefore the message.

However you can unlock a second unit to work with CN8 for free. I have never done this (I only have 1 Quest), but if your go to the Garmin website and see the registration of your second unit you should be able to obtain an unlock code for your first unit.

If you have already done this then the problem could be that you have accidentally given the wrong unit ID during registration.

Hope you solve your problem soon,

Andy.

Thanks guys.
I have managed to get my V7 mapping back into my Quest (I bought this one in May '05).
I purchased another last week as a gift for my "other half". I bought it from a guy locally and he had purchased it in Nov '05 but recently purchased and upgraded to V8. He sold his Quest as his new car is fitted with Sat-Nav.
GB-Andy, Can I get the V8 mapping onto my original unit as you say???
I have had a look on the GARMIN website but can't see anything that says I can Confused
Looks like I might give the wifey my old unit and keep the one with V8 for myself Embarassed

If you call Garmin UK at 01794 519944 (you may be on hold for a while but the best time is about 8.30am) and explain the situation - have your unlock codes to hand - I suspect they will issue you with another code so that both Quests can run CNv8 - that's what I did

To all,

Thank you for your advice - problem sorted Wink

As was said, I contacted Garmin and requested another unlock code for V8 to use with my original unit.

Happy days :D
