I've had my TTOne since January and am now on my third firmware upgrade but it has always had only the 'next road' displayed and not the 'current' one. The current road is only displayed on mine when no route is planned. I would certainly prefer to have both displayed. What version did you have before ? _________________ Tommo...

From memory, it's always been that way with the GO's. _________________ Richard

hi guys.
i searched gooogle on tomtom reviews and here is where he linked me.
seems to be "they know what they're talking about".
i purchased the tomtom go 700, I've the following concerns:
1) when navigating to a location of the POI list, is there any way how to read it's actual address too? or the only option is to follow directions blindly?
2) after reading a lot of reviews online. i figured that they use maps out of the last century or earlier, especially in the US. is there a any available link where to update those maps?
or to buy updated discs and transferring their mapping data into the go700? certainly, it needs to be supported.
3) and this is my main concern, many times during a route my device simply loses GPS reception, (i drive Chevy express 03,) and then takes another critical seconds -sometimes up to a minute! - to relocate its position ! extremely frustrating!

Honey, welcome to the forum.... in answer to your questions...
1 - You cannot view the addresses of POI's which are pre-installed. If you were creating your own, then you could put a name and full address, which can be viewed on your POI list or pointing to a POI on your map.
2 - The maps which are installed are always going to be out of date as new roads can take up to two years to appear. Map upgrades are available directly from Tom Tom but are quite pricey so it is not cost effective to update your maps very often. The changes from one map to the next are not generally huge.
3 - It depends on how you have the TT fitted and what features your car has. The TT needs direct line of site to satellites for optimum reception, so ideally on a suction mount on the windscreen. If your car has a heated front screen this can adversely affect reception and so to does a heat-reflective screen. In these cases it is advisable to obtain an external aerial, which can be bought from various on-line sources.
Lastly Honey, your post is about a TT 700, although the thread you have posted on was one regarding a firmware upgrade to the TT One. If you hunt through the forum index, you will find various posts relating specifically to the 700. There is a lot of good information out there to be had. Please make good use of it. If you have another query and can't find the answer by searching the forums, please create a new post clearly stating what device you have.
Regards,

|
|
I bought my TomTom One recently and it came with version 5.45 installed. I want to be able to use the Speed Camera Voice prompts but think that I can only use these up to version 5.44?
Can someone confirm if this is correct and if I do need version 5.44 or lower, am I able to downgrade if I don't have a backup of less than 5.45 ?
Thanks V.much ! |

After just reading another post where the person wants to get rid of the spoken speed voices and return to the original sounds, I would recommend that you keep your original data.chk file somewhere safe.
All you then have to do is replace the one you inserted with the original.

Then again, "backups" and copies are always a good idea. :D |

It's been said time and time again, all through these forum pages and it always proves true.. backup, backup, backup. If you do it before every major change, you can easily recover from a problem. _________________ Tommo...

Hi Thanks for that I will use these now. Part of the reason though was I was trying to use the 'Vicki' POI Alerts that seem to be only available up to 5.42 and I thought people were saying that you couldn't use voice prompts at all on 5.45, but that is obviously just the 'Vicki' ones. :D |

Thats correct, you can use voice prompts/warning but not the Vicki etc ones "yet".
At least not until some-one publishes a data.chk file suitable for the 5.450.
However there is another post in one of the forums explaining how you can actually create your own data.chk file using the Vicki etc voices. With the relevant links which include all instruction and downloads. |

You CAN have Vicky POI warnings and Firmware 5.450 on your TTOne. You have to create your own data.chk file. The following link should take you another thread. On page two, about the tenth posting, I give links to enable you do do just that. I run 5.450 firmware and have Vicky doing the warnings. Great. Oh, rename your standard data.chk file to something else before you replace it with your newly created one. That way if you have a problem, you can always rename the original to data.chk and all will be as it was.
