Just made this one for my 510. Tested it and it looks pretty sweet on the screen.

By installing a Navplate splash screen on your TomTom satellite navigation system it becomes less desirable on the black market, helping to deter thieves. |
Nope. You cannot see the splash screen unless you've already broken into the car, stolen the device taken it out of it's case and turned it on. It obviously does not provide any kind of "deterrent" whatsoever. A "deterrent" would be a sticker on the windscreen that says the TomTom is security marked. But to be honest, you're pretty stupid if you leave your TomTom in your car. You're even more stupid if you leave the mount on the windscreen which is is the opposite of a deterrent - it's a big advert saying "TOMTOM IN GLOVE BOX". Of course I can't really complain as I did this myself one night by accident and my TT One was stolen immediately on the first night I did this.
Once they've stolen it, you can replace the logo in a few seconds. It's not exactly hard to copy a file! It's no more of a deterrent than putting a paper sticker on your dashboard to deter car thieves.
You're much better spending the money buying a UV pen and registering your device on www.immobilise.com.
What would be better is if you could somehow totally lock the splash screen so that it can never again be modified without TomTom's corporation. Stolen devices could then be registered with TomTom so that they will refuse to unlock the splash screen on any device that has been reported stolen. This would require firmware support, TomTom's coopereration and a facility in TomTom HOME to more easily create and lock the splash screens. |

Not to hand, but I'm sure you can easily make one from this file:

Hi, i have Tom Tom 510, just bought it. I tried to replace splash image, but every time i turn on my tom tom, i get screen, that the wrong memory card is inserted:
Unfortunatelry i deleted the original spashw.bmp
I resized to 480x272, saved as 24bit BMP file with ACDSEE, and everytime i get that screen, to insert correct memory card. Anyone have any idea, what can be wrong? If someone have the original splashw.bmp, please send me it to krivik@gmail.com,
thanks. |
