I have a Dell axim x50v with 2003se and it has worked well for almost 1 year with a hi-204III gps. 1 week ago I bought an upgrade to WM5 from Dell. Now I have the same problem which means that I get the message "no gps device" so obviously the problem is that Dell- WM5 and Hi-gps wont work together. I see no other solution then to go back to use 2003se in my pda. Sad because there are many improvements in the new OS.

Regards Ronny from Sweden

Ronny, A work mate of mine upgraded his x50v to WM2005 and found it didn't work too well at all, the power management was rubish, it would flatten the battery even when switched off if the CF or SD memory cards were fitted, in the end he binned it and rolled back to 2003SE.

Dell said they were aware of the problem and looking to ship an update to the ROM some time mid Feb - guess what - still waiting, I would leave 2005 alone unless the device was designed and supplied with it from new, the upgrade is always going to throw odd faults, unless they get it 100% correct, now that would be first wouldn't it, by and manufacturer - Mike

Maybe some of you have found the "fix" for this before I did, but here's a link to a patch that was created by HTC, the OEM of the Axims.

Please report back if this works or doesn't for any of you.

I have 4 PDA's 2 Dell X5 (WM2003) & 2 Dell X51 (WM2005) & 4 CF GPS Receivers 2 SysOnCF GPS, Holux CF GM-270 & an old Fortuna GPS.

One of the X5 has TTN3, all the others have TTN5.

Background over, todate each GPS works like this:-

Fortuna GPS will only work on the X5 running TTN3.
Holux CF GM-270 with work only with the X5 (TTN3 & TTN5)
New SysOnCF GPS Plus will work only work with the X5 (TTN3 & TTN5)
Old SysOnCF GPS Plus works on all the PDA's

The New SysOnCF GPS Plus is the same as the old one (different serial No., but isn't a Plus II, III etc) yet it doesn't work.

I've installed this patch on one of the X51 TTN5 and still the Holux and the new SysOnCF GPS doesn't work.

So I guess it's back to the Bluetooth GPS and think twice before buying Dell PDA's again.

Tony, Welcome to the forums, when you are setting up Memory Map, try the following settings.
Open Memory Map application, then tap "Menu" GPS, Set-up
Maufacturer NMEA
Model (will be greyed out)
Port Com4 CF_CARD-Generic (or similar to this)
Baud 4800.
Then tap OK.
Now select Menu, GPS Satellites, take the unit out side and wait for upto 30 mins, you should see the strength bars start to appear in grey before they turn green indicating a position fix has been attained - Mike

Further update

I now have the AXIM X51v and Haicom 305III working fine with all my nav/topo apps.

I upgraded to the latest DELL firmware for the X51v (Version A12) and it all appears to work well.

You get a couple of pop ups when you install the card (used to get only one) but you can safely dismiss these and get on with using it.

Phil
