First spec of machine;
Acer N20 64Mb
400Mhz
Storage card 128Mb
Windows 2002
TomTom2 + Voice in main memory
(TomTom Maps on storage card)
HI204E GPS
Updated GPS drive 208
Memory:
Allocated 31.57
In Use 4.47
Free 27.10
Storage:
Allocated 31.63
In use 6.84
Free 24.79
Ok Now you know what I have here is the problem. Input a route...
example Greenleys Milton Keynes to Tesco Wolverton.
On the first left turn the voice tells me to "turn left", no problem continue down road, the voice then says "turn r" and stops. Some times the software hangs at the same time, other times the software keeps running but no voice.
When the software stops, sometimes by tapping the screen the software goes into menu mode, but if you then cancel the menu, the bottom piece of the screen where the turns and distance are shown comes up with the new position, but doesn't update again, the part where the map normally is still shows the menu selections. Other times the whole thing just locks and needs a soft reset.
I'm fairly new to PocketPC's and navsat, so any advice (beside throwing the Acer away :D) would be much appreicated.

The first attempt should always be to defragment the storage card. This helps in most cases. Let us know if not... _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the very quick reply, I'm now in the process of defraging the stick and will test drive the system straight afterward (the wife need some bits at tesco, so for once I have volunteered 8O )
Let you know when I get back

Well the maps certainly keep track with my journey much better now, the defrag has made a BIG improvement
Voice worked all the way to Tesco, brought the cat litter, and sugar :D , plumbed in the return journey, and first set of instructions, it locked. No voice, but the maps and navigation continued. I stopped, did a soft reset, loaded back up, first instruction locked but again no voice but maps and position were ok.

Hmmm... you have plenty of RAM free, and the storage card is clean as well. Where did you say are the voice files stored? In main memory? Is it always the same instruction that crashes it? or just the first instruction ? _________________ Lutz

Not always the same instruction as far as I can see (or should that be hear :D)
I'm going to uninstall the voice files and reload them, perhaps a different voice, just to make sure that its not a corrupted voice file.
I'll let you kow what happens.
Tanks again

OK reloaded the voice files, but chose a different set. I also turned off all of the POI just in case they were taking up memory when TomTom was running.
Sound still doesn't work and the controls (menus) still lock up but the map/navigation still functions. Any idea?

Are you sure you don't have a stray process lurking around somewhere? Have you disabled IR beam receive? _________________ Lutz

Just switched it off. Shame it doesn't have a task manager, so that you can see exactly what is running. Bit too late to test tonight, so I'll have ago some time tomorrow morning |

Two suggestions here, firstly load Wisbar Advance (it's free!) and has a task manager so you can quit running apps. You can get it at http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/. Just copy the cab file to My Documents on the PPC and using the PocketPC file manager double-click it to install (the cab file will aiuto delete after install), it's one of those utilities that you'll never be without once you've tried it
Secondly are you using SD memory? There is some evidence tto suggest that certain SD card makes are prone to casuing weird lockups and TTNav seems to be particularly sensitive to these. SD cards manufactured in China or Taiwan seem to cause most issues. A simple test is to delete any maps on your memory card and just load a small sectional area map rather than the whole UK map and repeat the tests. If the routes work without problems then it's likely your memory card. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Downloaded, and install Wisebar, thouh the task manager only shows the same as the memory manager in settings.
The storage "card" I'm using is the Memory Stick type, I have defraged it and the maps now work better than ever before, the voice files are in the main memory, same as TTN2 |

On an Ipaq 5550 I have found that having a POI BMP file that is in the wrong format (size & colour depth) can crash TomTom2 or even prevent it from starting. |

Here is where I am at at present:
I have done a hard reset.
I have only loaded TTN2 +Voice+16Mb (Norwich) map ALL in main memory.
As soon as the voice starts to talk, the system locks up - no more voice, but the map (navigator) keeps functioning, even if I go off route it still tries to get me back on the route.
Whilst this is happening I cannot access any menus in TTN2, the buttons on the PDA work and up pops calender etc, so its not the PDA locking but TTN2.
Because of the way the leads come out of the bottom of the PDA I relocated the holder, but still no joy.

I would guess this needs to be looked at by TomTom. Please mail them the problem, and include your PDA model and the TomTom versions. Pretty sure they haven't tested your combination yet. _________________ Lutz
