|
|
I have an iPaq with TTN5 and USA maps on CD, and will be traveling briefly in the UK and Italy this summer. I need the UK map for two days and the Italy map for three days. My question is how can I use my current system in these countries for a short period of time at the least cost.
Is it possible to borrow/rent maps? If not, as I expect, what about buying maps and then re-selling (technically, transferring the license to another party) them when I return. Is it possible to uninstall a map and sell it to someone to activate it on their device?
Does it matter if the maps are on CD or SD?
Where is the best place for someone in the USA to buy European maps?
Thanks for any help! |

Because of licencing and activation I don't think you would be able to do as you wish.
However, you may be able to hire a unit, complete with European maps. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Is it common for car rental companies in Europe to offer some navigation option? Or, might I find self-contained navigation devices for rent at the airport?
It would still be nice to have my own unit and just rent the maps, instead opf a whole unit. |

I've seen a Post in these forums where someone asked a similar question. They were pointed to a trial mapping download, can't remember if it was for two or three weeks.
I'll see if I can find it. (It may take a while). Hopefully someone else will remember where it is and advise you. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Some Hertz cars have them fitted, but not too many these days, try Avis they offer a bolt on extra sat nav package for £9.99 per day, £59.99 per week or £199.99 per month, be aware it will also cost you £18.00 delivery charge and a £125.00 deposit is required. Not cheap and its not TomTom, I would have a look at the purchase cost of the CD set of Western Europe - at least you then own the product for future, and you know haow to "drive" the software - Mike |

You can use mapopolis. The program itself is free and you can download trial maps for free. The trial maps last for 9 days following the first use.
I prefer TomTom over Mapopolis, but Mapopolis does work and will get you where you want to go.

Mapopolis have just issued new maps for Europe, and as they can no longer be purchased individually, Mapopolis have decided only to offer 3 trial maps for Europe, covering London, Paris and Rome. So the possibility of downloading a trial map for temporary use at your holiday destination is no longer there (unless you're going to London, Paris or Rome!!)
