Hello I would be grateful if someone could iffer me any adivice with my lack of GPS connection. I am using the following:-

Axim X51v
Medion-Navigator software (2003) on a card which I had on a previous PDA.
Polstar GPS wired mouse receiver.

When it is all connected I get the message ‘No GPS has been recognised, check the power supply, all cables and settings of the GPS connection’

I have tried all these but to no avail. I cannot get a connection. I have tried all the ports (1-16) and made sure no other programs are running. If I go into the GPS settings on the Axim they are set up as follows:- PROGRAMS: GPS program port1, HARDWARE: Port (none) BAUD RATE 4800. I have also tickes ‘manage GPS automatically’

I have tried with all different combinations of port settings.

I’d be grateful for any help at all. Is the software not compatible?

Thanks very much

Do you have the GPS management by WM5 (in the PDA Settings Screen) turned off? I believe it is turned on by default and is supposed to enable the GPS device to be shared by multiple software applications. It doesnt work with TomTom so it could be your problem.

If you try with an application for displaying GPS data (gpsinfo if that is compatible with WM5 - it was flaky with my X50V and WM5) then this has an option to try all the serial ports until it finds the GPS device. Once you know the GPS is working you can use the same settings in your navigation software. You need to be sure that the application you use to test the GPS is actually closed (use Magic Button or vBar or similar to make the close button actually close the application) otherwise the two programmes will not share the single serial port.
