Well I've run the new route on both machines and the results are as follows.
iPAC 3970 TTN2 v2.22 Lexar 128mb SD
calc time 1hr 3min 50sec
Dist 836.7 miles
Time 14hr 21min 50sec
iPAC 3950 TTN2 v2.04 Transcend 128mb SD
calc time 4min 8sec
Dist 836.7 miles
Time 14hr 23min 55sec
That's a massive diference between two virtualy identical machines, especially considering that Julie is running an older version on her 3950 as well. _________________ Gary

Don't know if you mentioned that already but have you made sure to install the SDIO driver update for the 3970 (assuming you are running PocketPC 2002)? _________________ Lutz

Thanks Lutz, I'll give that try tomorrow, rather too tired to start into downloads and updates right now, it's about bedtime !!
I'll let you know how I get on, thanks again. _________________ Gary

This fix shouldn't have any locale specific stuff in it - can you try and install it on your italian machine? _________________ Lutz

I tried already, it tells me wrong country

Anyway thanx for your help.

Corrado,
through the grapevine I have heard that before the end of the year there will be another ROM upgrade fro the 397x (in all languages) that will incorporate the SD fix. Don't lose your patience...

I was able to do some interesting comparisons as I am just transferring over to the 2210 from my Ipaq 3630 and will be removing it from the 3630 as soon as I get all the cables for the 2210.
3630 with TTN2 V2.22 and 256MB Compact Flash
5min 50 secs, 798miles, 13hr 35min
2210 with TTN2 V2.24 and the above 256MB Compact Flash
2min 17 secs, 1284.3Km (oops!) 13hr 35min
Same 2210 with TTN2 V2.24 and 256MB SD Card
5min 0 secs, 1284.3Km 13hr 35min
It amazed me that CF was over twice as fast as the SD card in the same device. Both are formatted as FAT and are defragmented. Also the 2210 is twice as fast as my 3630.

CF is a lot faster than SD. This is something I've seen consistently in my tests over the past year with MMC and SD cards. |

OK, I'm bored so I tried this using Garmin's Mapsource my 733 Mhz Pentium PC. (Cheating, I know)...
Land's End Hotel to John O'Groats Passenger Ferries
Calculation took just 5 seconds. Distance is: 839 miles and takes 14 hours 5 minutes. (fastest route)
Bizzarely, if I tell it to avoid highways then it says to drive to Liverpoolthen take the ferry from Liverpool-Belfast-Troon then drive to Aberdeen and take the Aberdeen-Stromness(Orkney)-Scrabster ferry before driving to John O'Groats.
Total 1013 miles, Time 1 day, 22 hours, 49 minutes and 38 seconds. (Approximately). |

This is a cool thread when you're bored at work and got nothing else to do
I've just had a go at the route and got the following results:
Ipaq 5555 overclocked to 528MHz ;)
Lexar 256Mb SD card
TTN2 2.24, GPS 2.08
Default speeds
Total Distance: 836.7 miles
Total Duration: 14:22:00
Calculation time: 2m10s - not bad for an SD card
The speed certainly is useful when going off course, reroutes that used to take up to 10 secs on lesser machines fly through in less than 5 secs with this one! |
