Jimster,

I sent mine down to Salisbury, MOTAPHONE 01722 415234

If you look on Ebay under Nokia service, you should find them.
They charged me just £5.00 for return special delivery.

They did it under warranty as the phone kept switching itself off and choosing it's own ringtone and disconnecting from the Nokia Bluetooth handsfree car kit
I didn't mention TTM5 not working :D

I don't know if they will still do it free or not worth a try though.

Ian

Just spoke to my nearest authorised Nokia repair centre and they said they would flash my N70 (yet to upgrade to this handset) to the generic v5 firmware BUT they would have to charge (£25) as Nokia will not pay them to carry this work out...

Without having to trawl through 18 pages again, has anyone been able to get the generic v5 firmware for free? I only ask as me and the Mrs will be upgrading at the same time, so it would be 2 x this charge...
Join Club Nokia (free) and you should be able to get the firmware upgraded for free at a Nokia Service Point.

PostPosted: Sun May 07, 2006 2:42 pm    Post subject: TOMTOM 5.2 on N70 Working PROBLEM SOLVED :) so far so good Reply with quote

Hi all,
I have been suffering the same problems as everyone else with the Nokia N70 and Tomtom Mobile 5.2 with bluetooth loss.
I am using the following;

NOKIA N70 (O2)
FIRMWARE - V 5.0609.2.0.1
01-03-06
RM - 84
HOLOX BT - 321 RECIVER

Firstly just let me say that upgrading to this latest firmware from V 3 was a big mistake. I have had so many more bluetooth problems that I wish I had left well alone.
I have been experimenting now for weeks or even months to get this thing to work I nearly threw the phone out of the window!
I have finally got it to work without dropping the connection and even when I move the phone away from the receiver so the bluetooth stops flashing on the gps unit, if I return it back within range it connects again.
Try this -
1. Before using Tomtom pair your phone to the GPS unit and type in the password 0000. IMPORTANT - when asked DO NOT allow the phone to have automatic authorisation for connection ie making it unauthorised.
2. Now rename the GPS unit to Tomtom.
3. Pste the following link into your browser which will take you to a zipped folder containing some files - http://esnips.com/web/Minty1084sBusinessFiles
Download the file namely TTMOBILE.zip to your desktop and unzip it using winzip.
This will give you a folder namely TTMOBILE. Put your memory card containing your Tomtom software into a card reader and open the "system" folder. If you can't see the folder you need to enable "view all hidden files and folders" within the folder options in windows.
Open the system folder and copy the unzipped TTMOBILE folder into the system folder overwriting the original.
Now put the card back in the phone and restart the phone and configure your gps in Tomtom selecting the "other gps" and then it will find your unit you named Tomtom.
Hopefully all should work well if not I can send you another file to put on your memory card which might ressolve it.
Believe me I have tried everything and this seems to have finally worked.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for that Dave,

Very odd, I'm using exactly the same set up as you , apart from I'm on T-mobile.

I've not had any problems at all.
Went down south 3hrs phone was connected to the BT handsfree car kit and the GPS receiver.

No bluetooth loss there or back.

Cheers Ian

Yeah I know mate, but unfortunately there is more to it than just firmware there's also software versions on phones etc. You are a lucky 1 as you can see from all the users on here who are having problems which is why I posted this.

Nokia and the networks need a big slap for this!!

Each is trying to blame the other!

I've spoken to Nokia they just don't care, they say it's upto the networks to use the latest firmware!!!

Thats rubbish if you ask me they make the phones the should state there is a fault the new firmware fixes it so ALL networks have to use it end of story!!

Shocking really!!

Hey ho we are all getting there now and most have got a working phone with one of the Sat-Nav programs running.

Cheers Ian

Dave,

Update!! TTM5 still drops Bluetooth connection. Tried it again this morning and it died. Not as bad as before, don't have to switch the phone on/off just have to exit TTM5!!!

Will try your instructions and file above, what I can't understand is why??

I switched straight over to Wayfinder and that was perfect for the rest of the journey. Tried it on the way back as well just to prove a point, same thing happened!!

I think it must be soemthing in TTM5 software as well as the phone.

Have you got the speed camera data base installed fro here as well?

Cheers Ian

Guys, I've a N70 (V5) and BT-321 and it's fine.

See here:

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?s=994ca71b9d57bac8400ca7a9e56d32f6&t=42288&page=4

Don't know if it helps, but set your call log to 10 days or 1 day.
Hide all POIs, and also Disable all POIs, but set whatever POIs you want as 'Warn when near'.
Make a pairing under the bluetooth menu.

Try this and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Jon29,

Tried and failed. Still droppping the Bluetooth connection.

I've got an extension on the Wayfinder software, I'm going to try that again.

I used it for a journey of 1hr and everything appeared to work fine.
Going to try it tomorrow, as I will be doing a 5-6Hour round trip. That should prove it one way or another.

Has anybody been told once and for all what it is?
Is it the phone or software or what?
Reading the other fourms it looks like if you use the genuine TomTom GPS receiver it seems to work ok.

Wouldn't it be nice if either Nokia or TomTom can confirm once and for all what this fault is!!

Some hope me fears.

Cheers Ian

Hi jon,

TomTom Version 5.2 (443)
GPS Driver v1.20

N70 on T-Mobile

Firmware V5.0609.2.0.1
01-03-06
RM-84

Have removed all the speed cameras, will try again tomorrow as I've another long journey to do.

I have a different GPS receiver as well that works perfectly with my old 6600. there again though this Holox BT321 worked with my old phone as well.

Doesn't make sense to me at all.

Cheers Ian

just noticed something odd today
if I start TT then my BT headset, it loses the headset after a few minutes
but, if I activate the headset first then start TT it seems to stay paired to both the gps receiver and headset
this was just on a short trip

will try it tomorrow on a longer journey

Tried again today, 3hrs each way.

Removed all speed camera POI's from MMC.
Deleted all Bluetooth pairings.

Switched on GPS receiver then opened TomTom application didn't ask for pass code just came up with Bluetooth turned off, turn on? Yes/No

Selected YES and it automatically connected to receiver. Worked for the whole journey. Came up once with enter passcode for GPS, I just pressed cancel. Worked like I say.

Will try again tomorrow but will install the speed camera data base.....NOT the speed zoned one just the basic one see what happens.

Cheers Ian
