My cigar lighter is behind the handbrake, so a long way from the dash or windscreen.
Can I wire the TT1 into say the glove box light or some other near by connection? |

Hi Leblanc,
You can wire your TomTom into a 12Volt supply, but you MUST use a cigar lighter socket, and do not cut the cigar plug off your TomTom lead.
The reason for this is that the cigar lighter adaptor regulates the 12Volt supply down to the 5 Volt 2Amp feed required using circuitry inside it.
If you try and wire your TomTom directly to the 12 Volt supply you WILL fry it!!

This can be done using an in line cigarette lighter hidden behind the dash. Normally you can pick up the feed from the audio - with choice of switched (ignition) or permanent live. I would not use a lighting circuit as the design load will be too low and the fuse may blow. _________________ Peter

It may be better to use a switched (ignition) supply as you don't really want a hidden lighter socket being permanently live, in case it causes a fire. _________________ Tommo...

I suspected something like this, which is why I posted. |

I think I will just keep recharging the Tom Tom One so there will be no trailing wires, and the unit will be easy to remove when I leave the car. |
