|
|
Can anyone explain to me briefly what the Thermic (blue) coating on my Renault Megane windscreen is supposed to do other than block the signal to my i3? If it is, as i understand, to reduce the thermal radiation to the car and to help keep it cooler then it's obviously "switched off" on my car as it gets very hot. Also what's the point in it only being on the front then?
Secondly to these i3 antenna have a correct "orientation"? ie. to they have to be mounted at 0 degrees or 90 degrees to the ground because i realised that by having my antenna inn the boot it'll reduce the accuracy of the antenna because when turning a corner the rear moves less than the front (imagine a car from above turning a corner). Since moving the antenna to the front (there is an un-treated area around the rear view mirror) reception is much quicker and the i3 more accurate around smaller roads. However when i put it on top of the mirror just to test it worked great i.e. at 90 degrees to the ground. When it was stuck to the window itself i lost two bars and the speedo was out by 7-8 mph more than normal. |

in theory i guess you would be right with the front mounted theory. so why then are vehicles such as bmw, audi etc fitted to the rear.
as are the latest vehicles we have at work.
in answer to the actual angle at which it is to be mounted, if my memory serves me correct, they have 180 degrees augmentation so flat is best.
i have actually removed mine now as i was not impressed with the slower sat lock times. sat in the car for over a minute waiting got a bit much.
now without, sat locks are down to an ok 30 seconds.
as for the screen contact renault, any service department will be able to answer the question. seems odd that they stopped them as my 04 reg megane has not got one |

Yes and i believe the Merc SL class has small ariel on the left rear wing for the SatNav. Perhaps the BMW Shark Fin looks silly up front?

i guess you will confuse the yts lad on the other end of the phone if you got technical
i would keep it simple "blue screen"
remember white screen is i3
blue screen renault
and yes i could not work out the longer lock times either. the aerial was on the roof so not obstructed by the windscreen etc as the unit will be now.
working great at the moment on beta 2.82. even trying out gps normal again to see if i can spot any real difference from waas/ egnos. |
