StreetPilot C310 - best option for French/Italian maps

I know this has been asked by i3 owners, but does anyone know the cheapest method to get routable maps for at least 2 European countries for the c310? I keep hearing about various map types that Garmin make; City Select, Navigator, Metro Guide etc...they don't seem to make it easy to find which you need! We're off to France and Italy (maybe a few more) in the summer and would love to take my c310 with me having become addicted to it. I'd like to have the convenience I get here but over there.

Any pointers?
