Is the speed camera data base update for April 2006 late? The month is 19 days old and the April data base has not appeared! I thought subscription charges were supposed to make the update of the database more efficient! Also for the first time I have spotted 3 fixed gatso cameras that are not in the database, I have reported them using the correct procedure.
I have subscribed to the database & I think it’s worth it! But when you become a paying customer you expect things to improve not worsen.
By what date can we expect the monthly data to appear? Or do we just log on in the hope that it may appear at some point! |

The Database is released at the end of each month for the next month.
The April one was available on the 29-03-2006. _________________ Graham.

It works a month behind. The March one is the data collected in March and released at the beginning of April. Near / In May the April database will be released.
Bit like magazines, i have the May issue of Top Gear that was on sale on the 1st April (no foolin') |

We are aware of the confusion behind releasing the database towards the end of the month. As of this month we are dropping the "month" descriptor and just adding a date and release number.
We are also working on a number of items to help us release the database more frequently. I don't have a schedule for this yet, but we will be targeting at least 2 releases per month.
As I am in Boston at the moment I expect the next database to be released either on the 28th or 29th. I am also looking at installing an RSS feed specifically for the Speed cams, again no timeframe for delivery yet. _________________ Mike Barrett |

The system does not provide you with a receipt for a particular camera submitted, only a computer generated email with no indication of details!
My profile does not show anything in 'submitted' in the 'last 10 submissions' either!
But the exact wording is 'Last 10 News Submissions sent by...'
I do know that my submissions are accepted, as they appear in the following month's database!
So if you do not get a computer generated email within minutes of sending details with the online form, then they are not getting your details! |

Not necessarily so. Server generated automated emails such as these often get blocked by certain ISPs. Blocks appear to be happening for AOL, Supanet, Freeserve, Wanadoo, BTConnect, BTinternet, NTL and Blueyonder.
I'm happy to report that we have no reason to believe that the actual submissions are not getting through.
Amongst other checks, as a reassurance to ourselves that the system remains working, we receive copies of the dozens of confirmation emails that are sent out daily.

Sorry, that is a system modification in progress that will not necessarily reach fruition. I can see how it may cause confusion. _________________ Robert Brady |

Can you tell me the Camera ID and I'll check its status as it appears we may not have received your email? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have already done that. We have had rather a lot of conflicting reports in that area, some suggesting that there are cameras there others requesting removal.
Vini, can you confirm that there are no cameras on that stretch of the M18 for a mile in each direction? I have that area schedulled for surveying next week, but your confirmation would save me a trip. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Well blow me Go away for a while, come back and all hell has broken loose! Im not going to reiterate whats already been said - and yes I did bother to actually read all forty(!) pages of this thread, but for what its worth heres a couple of observations I didnt notice in among all the flaming.
Dont kid a kidder... The advertising on the site doesnt pay for the sites bandwidth? Umm Im certainly not in the business of calling anyone a liar, but I have to say I doubt this claim. Sheer traffic figures for this site are available from a number of online resources, and 'standard' click thru rates - for the Google type ads anyway - are in the order of average 1.5 - 1.8%. Having a number of sites of my own with similar forums, I can vouch for this type of advertising being usually sufficient to cover bandwidth costs and that should hold true exponentially.
Despite all the reading Ive done today, I cant find any post stating just what the charge is for. If its not to cover bandwidth costs - which we've covered above - what is the purpose of raising the cash? You dont need to be a mathematician to come up with pretty staggering figures of income here, more than sufficient to buy your own server and a dedicated T1 line brand new each month! You want to pay for 'staff'? What for, exactly? Surely not to deal with the "20,000 pages" on the site - I have only half that amount on a singe site, but I manage with just a couple of hours a month. To not give a reason simply adds fuel to those who accuse PGPSW of blatant profiteering.
Like many others in this thread, Ive not had any mail from you guys about 'free membership' (or about the charge being levied at all). Wouldnt it have been ethical for the team to have sent a blanket mail to all members letting them know that the database would soon no longer be available free? And notwithstanding that, why like others didnt I get a mail acknowledging my reports credit toward membership?
Finally, and a bit OT for this thread, I'd like to ask a mod or team member to dig out the email address associated with my former username - from this username my old one should be obvious!. I requested a new password but it hasnt arrived in my inbox, leading me to think I might have signed up for my original account via a different email addy. If someone can tell me what that is, I can log back into that old address and retreive my new password! |
