Earlier Warning at Roundabouts

Being a newbie to this Forum this may have been mentioned before. I have just started using the i2 and was very impressed. However when approaching a roundabout which has several lanes leading up to it, it does leave it rather late before it informs you which exit you should take. Changing lanes at such late notice can cause problems. Oddley enough when I was approaching a roundabout recently with only 1 lane it gave me 0.4 of a mile notice of the exit!!

And finally, where can I get the most up to date street maps or is the Garmin website the best place to obtain these?

hello mate...check to see what version firmware you are running...version 2.9 has ''improved the timing of voice guidence prompts'' so that might solve your problem...again check what version mapping you have, version 8 is the most uptodate....lastly how good is the b&w screen on the i2...

Thanks for replying zogman. I have v2.9 and map v8. The mono screen is fine - you don't really need the colour version and its cheaper by around £40 to £50 squid!!

with v2.9 firmware and v8 maps you've got the most up to date setup...the timing of the alerts might just be a quirk in that particular area....

I know this could be a daft suggestion but could it speed related. EG if I approached a roundabout a bit on the quick side - could this affect the timing of the alert?

PaulB2005: Yes, I can only watch old B&W programs. I have however been able to download the patch to make my i2 HD ready !!

There seems to be a cutover point at about 30mph where the final instructions to turn at a normal road junction are given much closer to the turn in question. Below that speed I generally (but not, not always) get the final instruction considerably closer to the point of turn, probably less than 100m whereas going above 30-40mph I generally get the final instruction about 300m before the turn. I'd guess it is the same for roundabouts.

What I find frustrating is that it does not appear to be consistent (at least, I haven't yet worked out what the consistency is Crying or Very sad

I'm using v2.7 and v7 maps.

I posted a note on a different 2.90 thread re the differences between 2.70 and 2.90. I had two i3s side by side and 2.90 voice prompts were earlier by 2 seconds at most - irrespective of whether it was a motorway junction or housing estate.

Cheers. Having now gone back to 2.7 (twice) i can't really see that 2.7 was that bad / different.
