Hoping someone could help me. I was trying to update my i3 software, and accidentally clicked on Abort whilst loading. My i3 died immediately - the PC doesn't recognise it as a USB device (it doesn't power from the PC anymore) and it won't even turn on when it's just the battery.
Is there a hard-reset I can do, or am I screwed? It's totally unresponsive to everything.
Thanks in advance.

make sure that the drivers are still installed on your pc then try connecting it again.
a hard reset is done by pressing the 3 buttons on the front all at the same time for a couple of seconds.
try also removing the sd card from the side and your batteries and let it stand for a while.
cant offer anything else. if no one else can offer anything different then return it from where you got it.
if it is a firmware upgrade you were doing then consider not doing so if 2.9 as it is unstable and garmin are working on the problems. |

Microwaving is tempting!
Sadly none of the reset options work. Seems a bit of a design fault if it doesn't have a default program loaded on the chip to run. I bought it via Maplin (online), so am imagining it might be a lengthy process while I post it back.
Annoying - thanks for everyone's help.

if you bought online then you will have been given an order/customer number.
i think the best way is, as said, take it into your nearest maplin store and quote the number. |

I too was updating the software over the Web when the network crashed.
All I was left with was the PC saying it couldn't recognise the device, and the i3 saying SYSTEM SOFTWARE MISSING.
I got around it by downloading the latest update and installing it manually (not using web update - from here http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00434-00 - choose Unit software v2.9)).
Surprisingly it worked
good luck

Laura,
I had this happen. Just phone up Garmin, they will talk you through a hard re-set. If it works, all ok, if not they will give you a Returns number.
You then send back the unit, minus all the fittings and they either fix it or send you a new one.
They sent me a brand new one, so I now have two of everything else. :0)
