I have been experimenting with downloading and installing POI files. I am able to install the .ov2 files to my PDA but am unable to copy over the .bmp files. Should these go in the same folder as the .ov2's or elsewhere?
Thanks in advance |

Download them into the map folder, alongside the ov2 files

Thanks for that Robin, but that is what I have been trying to do - all to no avail. I have tried 'Copy & Paste' and dragging.

In which way is it failing? Do you get any error messages?
Have you used the PC to 'Explore' the Map Folder to see if the Files are there?
These are the things we need to know to get you up and running.;) _________________ Richard

I believe that there is a limit of 39 POI's that can be loaed on your tomtom. If you have more than that, delete some and then see if they show up.
Have you tried Manage POI's within tomtom? _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for that Richard & lupos0_1.
It is the .bmp file that I am having a problem with, the .ov2 files are fine and the new POI's actually work except that there is a large red square shown on the map (and in POI management) instead of the proper icon.
As far as error messages go, all I get is the circle with diagonal bar when trying to 'drag & drop'.
Is there perhaps some form of 'conversion to PPC format' that I am missing? |

Firstly can I ask are the bmp files actualy bmp and not jpg? - I have seen this somewhere else before, check on your PC what the file extension is. If they are bmp files then the name must exactly match the ov2 file it coresponds with (only the extension - file type will differ).
If the database you have downloaded is from this site you will find the names of the files match i.e. one ov2 to one bmp.
I find it easier using a card reader to copy files such as this to the SD/CF rather than being reliant upon Active Sync, it just works far easier when operating within the PC world rather than PPC - Mike |

Also, make sure that your .bmp files are not too big. I can't remember of the top of my head the maximum size that is allowed but anything over, and you will not be able to see them. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the pointers.
All of the POI's were from this site so thanks for that too. Using a card reader did the trick, all .bmp's just sailed over like the .ov2's - problem solved. |

When saving an icon for TomTom, always make sure it's a BMP file, but also make sure it's a Windows 24 bit Bitmap file.
I've found it won't work otherwise. |
