Help

First of all I have done a search and couldnt come up with any similar postings so my apologies if this has been queried previously.

I have just purchased a Dell Axim X51v with my hard earned pennies as this PDA can be best utilised with my job, and would like to upgrade this to be used for satellite navigation.

My queries are as follows but please bear in mind that budget is a major factor having just outlayed for my PDA:-

1) Which mount would best suit this PDA bearing in mind that I will need to remove it on a regular basis (approximately 7/8 times a day. I am also not able to hardwire anything into my vehicle as it is a leased company car (Audi A3)

2) Which GPS receiver will suit both PDA and software. I on occasion may require the PDA for pedestrian navigation but would forgo this if expense or CF/ Bluetooth receivers can not be recommended. (Although I am impressed with the flexibility of a CF mounted unit)

3) Which software is best recommended for this PDA and possible receiver combination. I would prefer software that can be updated with all the relevant speed camera positions (need to hold onto that licence)

4) I live and travel throughout the North West of England and would prefer to purchase the equipment over the counter but for the right price would buy from an e retailer....Any suggestions ???

Thanking you all in advance[/b]

See for discussion of mounts for Dell Axim X51

I use TomTom Wireless GPS MKII and have had no problems with it. I bought it from www.rankhour.com and found the service to be OK.

Hope this helps.

I am about to take delivery of Dell Bluetooth navigation software and mount for my Axim 51v. I am not expecting much from the mount (it will be a winscreen sucker gooseneck affair) and will be looking to buy a vent mount for the PDA.

I'll post back when it all arrives and I've got a chance to evaluate it,

Cheers,

HTH

OK, I've had the Dell BT stuff for a few days now but as yet have not had a chance to do more than a few short journeys with it.

The gooseneck mount is very stable, but you need to keep the Axim quite high off the dash to make room for the power adapter (you have to use the adapter that fits on the bottom of the Axim), so I have ordered a vent clip from www.easydevices.co.uk.

The GPS receiver took about 20 minutes to get a good fix straight out of the box, but subsequently this time has come down to seconds.

The software seems to work well enough without being spectacular - it loaded up without a hitch.

One good thing about the Dell - one of the main reasons for me buying it - is that it comes with maps for western Europe, though you'll need a big SD Card to fit it all on. The maps do load up smoothly, though.

HTH

I'll post back with a better review when I've had a longer time to evaluate it all.
