Hi,
I have a Spectec WIFI card for my Mio A201.
Works great for surfing the net, email, MSN etc.
Just wondered if anyone else had managed to find some WIFI sniffer s/w that works with the A201 so I can scan for free wireless hotspots at Airports etc.
I know there is some out there for WM2005 but all seem to be memory hungry. Would like to hear from anyone who has actually got some working on their A201.
Thanks

I have the Spectec card for my A201 and agree it seems to work fine.
I haven't bothered looking into sniffer software in the past as I didn't need to access the net too often on an ad hoc basis. I would be interested now though as it would sometimes be useful. I have found that leaving the wifi program running it will often spot a network I give some information. I drove past a large hotel recently and picked up a signal which I was able to connect to when I stopped and reversed back into their carpark. I have also connected to my near neighbours network just because I can, and they haven't bothered to secure it in anyway.
If you come up with any useful info then be sure to post it here. |

How about WiFiFoFum or MiniStumbler? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have looked at both of these but could not get ministumbler to work.
Wififofum looks good to go on WM2005 but needs the Windows .NET services to run. According ot the windows site these take 26Mb of memory alone, unless it installs a smaller runtime version on the PPC then I dont have enough memory.
My PPC reports Total storage 23.94mb, in use 9.51 mb leaving 14.43 available thats with all unneccassary files removed. I would have though that would have been ample but it doesnt look like it, unless I`m missing something here which is possible as I`m new to PPC.
My program memory reports total 53.5 mb with 35.94 mb free thats with all but windows running.
Now I have a 256mb SD card but obviously I cant use that to store the program as the SD slot is needed for the WIFI card if I`m trying to log onto a HotSpot.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I have the lack of memory problem also, and unlike the previous Mio168 where you could allocate memory and move it from storage to program, the A201 doesn't allow this. This is a shame and I wonder if it is the device or the newer OS. |
