Hi Guys.
Manged to get my hands on a TomTom Rider, . Now I want to power it from the bike with the supplied cable - however as I understand it, wiring it directly from the battery will drain it (good rec TomTom - not!)
So I wish to wire it from an ignition power source so it only charges when the ignition is on.
I've got a CB500 and have a haynes manual with a wiring diagram showing a single red/black cable which then goes to the fuse box for lights, horn etc,
So I presume this would be ideal to connect the rider power cable to - however the rider power cable has both positive and negative connections(obviously) so what do I do with the negative? Also do I need an inline fuse?
I presume its like wiring up heated grips from a ignition source e.g wiring to the horn or brake light wiring - you splice into that and so the grips work when the ignition is on only. However Im perplexed about what to do with the negative lead?
Any ideas appreciated, as you probarbly guessed Im not talented in the electrics department! - but think getting an auto electrician to do it is a bit much.

Can you get to the battery on the bike, if so follow the wire off the negative terminal and see where it goes, it is probably bolted to the structure of the bike, if this is the case then you can attach the negative wire from the TomTom to a conveniant metal structure point anywhere on the bike, use an existing fastener or bolt.
I would recommend an in-line fuse holder, rate the fuse at three amps and you should be OK, the TomTom won't pull that ammount of current, but the fuse will offer some protection against damaged wires etc.
