I'm a complete newbie, so apologies if this is a stupid question. I know the POIs have icons associated with them. How do I make those icons display? ie if I want to find the best petrol station, how do I make the icon for petrol stations show up on the map so I can choose the next one on my route, rather than the nearest which may be in the wrong direction?

Thanks

the manual import does work for just distance based proximity alerts. the only problems are when you have a speed proximity alert then poi loader uses it's default distances

As a follow up to my original question...

If I can't make the i3 show an icon on my current map view for all instances of a particular type of POI then what use are the icons? What am I missing?

I know that when I approach a cluster of speed cameras, and am over the speed limit, I will see 1 or more camera icons (very useful!). I presume this is because there is some parameter in their configuration which means they are displayed when the proximity alert option is selected.

Does this mean that I could, if I wanted to, modify my other POIs so that they would also be displayed whenever I was within their defined proximity radius? ie could I modify my Fuel POI to appear whenever I pass within 1 mile? If so, could I make the icon appear without the audible bong?

If I did make this change what would happen when I download the next update of the POIs from this site? Would my changes be overwritten and have to be reinput?

you wouldn't need to modify the poi's. only the settings when you upload in manual mode.

however, you would get a 'bong' every second or so for every poi that you are within the radius.

will manually importing my poi and editing proximity alerts mess up my modified speed camera gpx files which are in the same folder?
i mean how do you do it?
many thanks for you expert advice!

kev, you change proximity settings on an individual file-by-file basis so unless you change settings for the gpx files then they won't be affected - just put the gpx speed cam files on as speed alert.

You only get warning if you are speeding when you approach Speed Cameras.

You can put you'll then you'll be alerted all the time you are in the Proximity Area. It gets very tedious after about half an hour....

Just use the POI Loader to edit the Proximity settings under Manual mode.
