Darren,
From the specs TT are now packaging a speed camera database with the new TT.
I'd prefer to use the PGPS one....... do you know if there is any way or removing or disabling the TT database and using the PGPS version? _________________ Thanks,

Think about it. I seriously doubt that my poor 3715 with Navigator 5 or Tungsten T3 and any type of SD-card on the market could pull off the processing power and data throughput (to and from the SD-card) necessary to run TTS as it works on a 910. The 910 has a dedicated hard drive solely for the purpose of storing and parsing the huge datasets contained in the TTS function. |
Text to Speech requires very very low data throughput. Far far less than playing sound files as TomTom does currently on all platforms. Once the application is loaded, it only needs to load the actual text which is obviousy miniscule. The entire of Romeo and Juliet is only about 60K and would take over an hour to read. That's less than 1k per MINUTE of data transfer.
The processing power for text to speech is also very minimal. I had text to speech on my BBC Micro about 12 years ago. Lots of childrens toys use a text to speech engine as it's cheaper than storing the raw sound files. As a software developer myself, I can see no hardware or software reasons why they couldn't have made text to speech work across all the TomTom versions.
If they enabled it on all previous versions, they could make more money by selling audio books. This decision just doesn't seem to make any sense. I can only figure that perhaps the text to speech engine they've chosen to use has an expensive license fee. But they still could have made it an optional plug in (paid for).

Also, I'm not sure why you say "any type of SD card". The devices come with the SD card so they KNOW it's compatible. You won't have to buy it yourself. There's no need to increase the size of the card for text to speech, because audio books are absolutely tiny compared to the gigantic map files. |

I did of course mean 21 years ago. Typo.
I REALLY WISH you could edit posts on these forums. Can somebody PLEASE enable this? Is very annoying having to post again if you've forgotten something or have made a mistake. Sorry for the multiple posts. |

It's either a license fee issue as you surmise, or it's positioning the unit in the marketplace. |

Can you now reveal what the routing options are? Is it still Quickest/Shortest or is there more variety along the lines of the Navman? |

Well PHP usually allows edits very easily. I've installed a couple of instances myself. |

It's the decision of the board admins, I post on many forums of the same type and edits are possible. Usually within a restricted time frame, say, 15 minutes. |

Yes I realise that. My question was directed at the board admins. |

Also, is the software compatible with a Macintosh? The One says that it is but I don't know to what extent. |
The software works fine on OS X 10.4.x
You are presented with 4 options when running:
Install the application ie. the 5.420 update
Backup and Restore
Add/remove features

So where's all the info on the new models - surely the NDA has expired by now? |

They've put two or three pages of articles up since the NDA expired. How much more do you want? You only have to click once from the home page |

Cheers oldboy. I don't often see the homepage due to using a browser which keeps all my favourite pages open. |
