I am looking at a GPSMAP 60CSX and will probably buy the topo GB map for it. But I would also like to take advantage of some of the street level mapping and auto routing with it. THere seems to be quite a choice of Mapsource maps that might do this. Roads & Recreation, Metro guide, Citymap etc. Which would be the best to go for. |

If you want auto-rerouting, discount R&R and UK MetroGuide; I thought those products were discontinued, anyway. CitySelect is being replaced by CityNavigator and that would be the one to have. _________________ Tim |

City Select is being discontinued with City Navigator becoming the sole Garmin autorouting software. The software, when installed, is locked to the electronic internal serial number of the GPS unit. The software can be unlocked to work with two different Garmin GPS units.
City Navigator software is normally only included with hardware. I own a Streetpilot which came with CN Europe. I can buy CN USA/Australia/whatever but they are all extremely expensive as standalone products.
In Europe, Garmin will not sell CN Europe, the opposite is true in the States where they can buy CN Europe but not CN USA. This is Garmin's marketing policy.
So, if you already own a Garmin unit that came with City Nav software, you can buy a Vista Cx or 60CSx and use your software to provide autorouting.
If you don't, you will find that buying the hardware is only half the solution - you will also have to purchase the software, doubling the cost. |
