Just bought an i3 for my wife at Halfords, and am quite impressed (my own GPS is TomTom on a PDA). When setting it up I found an option for Safe mode. I can't see it in the instruction book - what is this?

When the i3 is on safe mode it disables some functions as you are driving so you can't change settings etc. However if it is not on safe mode then you're passenger can have a fiddle with it to find the nearest petrol station etc... |

It's also a bit poinmtless because if you put Safe Mode On as soon as you do anything it says "Safe Mode is On. Do you want to turn it off?"
Can't think of a practical use other than protection from "sticky fingers"....... |

And you can get a (US) manual from here:
http://www.garmin.com/products/manual.jsp?product=010-00434-00
Frankly there's not much to learn. If you just explore the "Settings" menu you should find almost everything. The main thin I learned from the manual is that pressing and holding the wheel in will add your current location to the Favourites list. So you can add somewhere that doesn't have a Post Code or regular address. |
