Money not the issue but if your buying it which would you choose?
I have read of slow operation with the quest 2. This concerns me. I do not plan on driving coast to coast but I like the idea of preloaded maps.
What I don not want is to sacrifice speed and accuracy for storage capacity. Also with the Q2 garmin saw fit to remove the ac adapter and no maps on CD.
Anyone using the Q2 right now ? Would you buy it again or go with the standard quest? Thanks. |

If you don;t *need* the preloaded maps, go for the Quest1. :D
But: Garmin does supply mapping software for on the PC with the Quest2, you only have to ask for it. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Bought my Quest 2 back in January and I am more than happy with it. Mine did come owth a mains adaptor and mapsource, which I use for route planning.
You are right about the map redraw times, sometimes a bit slow. But I have found that this doesn't occur all the time.
I would say get a Quest 2.
Regards

I think I will get the Q2. I am still a little peeved about Garmin not providing the AC adapter. I like the idea of getting the most current model as long as it works as good or better that the prior model.
I did call Garmin and they said they are now (or soon) shipping the Q2 with map cd's. If you get one with out disca just call them and they will mail them out. Also the Garmin guy said version 8 maps should be out in June or July. As long as I can get the upgraded map for free that works for me. |

That's good news. I would have really missed Mapsource on my PC for routes/tracks/waypoints...
cal50: Quest 2 also has proximity alerts (eg Speed Cameras) and full postcode search which the Quest 1 doesn't have. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I have no idea. I called Garmin today 2/21/06 and the Garmin tech said map updates are usually rolled out in June & July. I am just repeating what he told me. I have no idea if this is correct or accurate. I do know that if I drop a wad of cash on the G2 I want the latest map software without more money. An ac adapter would be nice also. |

The june/july thing is for the US AFAIK, EU was always jan for CS and feb for CN.
CN8 EU should be announced any day now. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Garmin told me end of Feb too. CNv8 has been shipping preinstalled on the i3 for a few months now but no sight of the DVD/CD. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I'm new to all this GPS stuff, but I bought a Quest 2 over CHristmas and it has CN V8 installed with Mapsource CD and AC charger in the box. |

JonBroad is right I also purchased the quest 2 from GPS Warehouse and it comes with mains charger and CN V8. I have a feeling that Q2 also routes better than the original quest although to be fair I have not done a comparison between the two units but I have not as yet heard anyone say that Q2 has tried to put them down tracks and small roads unless asked for.
cheers Bob |

So you got City Navigator v8 on DVD? That's probably the first confirmed sighting of the product! :D _________________ Gone fishing! |
