|
|
Hi
Hopefully you can answer some questions I have about the Maps of Western Europe download from TomTom.com.
Firstly, can the maps now do door-to-door in Europe, particularly cross-border? I had thought that was now the case, but a reviewer on dabs.com suggested that they couldn't.
Secondly, is the Maps of Western Europe a complete coverage (i.e., 99%) or just "major roads" like you get on the TTGO500?
Finally, I assume that these will work on the TTONE assuming that I've got enough storage space on the SD card. How big is the SD card in a standard TTONE?
Cheers muchly mike |

The older MOWE maps only cover the motorways, albeit throughout Europe.
The newer "West Europe" map has all countries to the usual level of detail. This new map allows cross border door-to-door routing.
The map will work ont he TT ONE if you have the correct product key.
The question about the SD card is not entirely relevant - you can always put a bigger card in. _________________ Lutz

If you want the cross-border map don't buy the CD set. They are a set of country maps and "plus" maps (like the 500). They are individual maps and not cross-border.
The download set is the same as the CD.
If you want cross-border you have to buy the "Maps of Western Europe" on an SD card. Just plug it into the ONE.

Coverage is 98/99% on most countries but is less in Czech Rep and Poland and maybe Finland? _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

...and Ireland is poor too. In fact it's not officially included on the list, but has some bits covered. Same with Greece - just a bit of Athens _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

hi
you may know already but there have been 2 map versions of europe available
1 maps of western europe (street level mapping) also known as MOWE
2 major roads of europe (basicly A and B roads but down to village level not street level)
you could buy the maps on CD (MOWE) and install the country you wish to goto in the plus version :ie france plus
this will get you to france using major roads only, then through france with normal street level mapping
alternativley you could just add france to your sd card and switch maps when on the ferry/train. admittidly this a pain but it will still work fine and only incur the cost of the CD set (100 quid)not the SD card (249 euros)which you will have to back up when you get it
the other plus with the CD set is that you only install the maps you want on the sd card therefore saving on the cost of a very large SD card
im not saying that the CD set is the best way to get what you want but hopefully this info will help you choose which is best for you, CD set or SD card

Thanks Linrew. I think the SD card will probably be best for me. I would like to be able to drive straight off of Eurostar and arrive in Italy with no messing around.
Whether I'll actually get around to doing it is another matter, but I'd like to have the option :D |

I've just bought the download version of MOWE. They're all plus maps so to drive to Itlay is simple, load the Italy Plus map and switch before leaving the tunnel. The major roads will get you through France and the Italy map should be detailed enough to get you to your destination.
Downloads are much cheaper than the full card. |

I would like the MOWE maps on my TTOne and note that the CD set is far cheaper than the SD card with MOWE pre-installed. If I buy a 1GB card (found locally for about £35) will all the MOWE CD maps fit on it
Secondly, according to the above posts, if the CD set of maps are used you cannot navigate between countries. Does this mean you must change map and start navigation again ? Can you select the relevant country map (France for example) then plan your itinerary and switch back to GB and still keep your french itinerary stored
Thirdly and hopefully lastly.... If I get this 1GB card, do I copy all the files from my current card, then add whatever country maps I choose from the MOWE CD set, or does it all get installed in one go from the CD set |

1. You will need a 2gb card to get all the maps on
2. If, for example, you wish to drive to Spain then you could use the Iberia Plus map to get you there via the major roads of Europe and then use the detailed map for when you get there. You can save the itineraries and then reload them when you need them.
3. Yes, copy all the files from your current card and then just add the other maps.
I have this already set up on a 2gb card and use the following maps
Benelux_Plus-Map
DE_AT_CH_PL_CZ_Plus-Map
France-Map
Great_Britain-Map
Iberia_Plus-Map
Italia_Plus-Map
Scandinavia_Plus-Map
This leaves plenty of room for POIs, voices, etc |

Thanks for your reply mate. I assume a 1gb card would be sufficient to cover Great Britain, France & Spain
I didn't quite grasp what you said about Iberia and Spain maps. If I want to drive from UK through France into Spain, I think you are saying I can plan and save my itineraries but still have to switch maps at each border crossing. Is that right or am I a bit thick Please answer that last bit the way I hope you will [/b] |

A 1gb card would be sufficient for those countries. The Iberia plus map contains the Major Roads of Western Europe and the detailed maps of Spain and Portugal. You could then just drive though France using the major roads and not have to swap country maps at the border. |
